How to Use

Mix a 20kg bag into 4 litres of clean water with a heavy duty low speed paddle stirrer, then pour onto the primed substrate and spread with a steel smoothing trowel or stand up spreader within 10 minutesConfirm the concrete is clean, sound and free from all contaminating materials such as paint, wax, curing compounds and oil
Confirm new concrete is at least 4 weeks old
Remove laitance by mechanical means, then vacuum to ensure removal of all loose particles
Confirm on ground slabs are protected against rising damp, for example a plastic sheet below the concrete or a moisture barrier such as ARDEX WPM300 with sand broadcast over the second coat
For damp or green concrete, roll one coat of ARDEX WPM300 at 3m2/litre, broadcast 0.5mm clean dry sand at ~700gms/m2 while still wet, cure overnight, then broom and vacuum the excess off
Confirm the subfloor is dry to AS 1884 and a minimum of 10C
Prime the prepared concrete surface with ARDEX Multiprime using a brush or soft broom and allow to touch dry
Apply a second coat of primer on extremely porous substrates to prevent bubbles or pinholes, letting the first coat dry first
Pour 4 litres of clean water into a clean, rust free bucket, then pour the 20kg bag in slowly while continually mixing with a heavy duty, low speed mechanical paddle stirrer
Mix for approximately 2 to 3 minutes to a smooth, lump free mixture and do not aerate the mix by overstirring
Pour the mortar onto the primed substrate within 10 minutes of mixing, always adding fresh to fresh mortar
Spread with a smoothing trowel (steel trowel) or stand up spreader and allow to smooth out, and do not attempt to float the setting surface
Incorporate movement joints using AS3958 as a guideline and bring them through to the tile surface
Prime between layers where additional layers of ARDEX LQ 92 are applied, once the previous layer has hardened at approximately 4 hours at 23C
Protect the application from sunlight and wind until the material has set
Allow at least 4 hours before the application of tiles
Apply the AS3740 waterproofing membrane above the ARDEX LQ 92 and before the tiles are installed where one is required

Technical overview

ARDEX LQ 92 is a cement based, polymer modified underlay for levelling uneven concrete floors prior to tiling. Mixed with 4 litres of clean water per 20kg bag it gives a smooth, pourable, free flowing and self smoothing material that can be applied from 25mm down to a feather edge, with greater thicknesses achieved in multiple layers or by adding aggregate. It is used over concrete in internal and external areas before tiles are laid and is suitable for use with under floor heating. It is not recommended for use under vinyl coverings. Where AS3740 calls for a waterproofing membrane, the membrane goes above the ARDEX LQ 92 and before the tiles. Flow diameter is quoted to EN 12706:1999; no accredited report number and no Australian Standard classification is cited on the data sheet.

Not recommended for use under vinyl coverings. Do not apply in temperatures below 10C or above 35C, and protect the application from sunlight and wind until the material has set. On ground concrete slabs must be protected against rising damp, and damp or green concrete must first be primed with ARDEX WPM300 with sand broadcast. Subfloors must be dry (AS 1884) and be a minimum of 10C for successful installation. The amount of water used when mixing is critical, the mix must be poured and spread within 10 minutes of mixing at 23C, must not be aerated by overstirring, and the setting surface must not be floated. In external applications a waterproofing membrane must be applied above the ARDEX LQ 92.
