Do I need a primer under STB?

Most substrates require priming with Multiprime or P51 before applying STB to ensure long-term adhesion. The substrate must be clean, dry, and dust-free.

Can STB be overcoated with liquid membrane?

Yes. STB is fully compatible with ARDEX water-based and polyurethane liquid membranes (WPM 002, 155, 310, 750, 1000 etc.) and provides flexible reinforcement at critical detail areas.

Provides waterproofing seal for surface joints and substrate transitions.

How to Use

Remove the release paper, press onto the prepared substrate and consolidate with the ARDEX Brass Roller and ARDEX Small Hand Roller, lapping tape to tape a minimum of 50mmRemove all dirt, dust, curing compounds, oils, grease, surface sealers and other contaminants by mechanical methods and vacuum cleaning
Leave the surface sound, clean, dry and free from sharp edges, loose or other material that could damage the tape
Install floor sheeting materials to the manufacturer's instructions before taping
Prime concrete and other porous substrates with an appropriate ARDEX primer
Apply several coats of ARDEX WPM 265 or ARDEX Multiprime to AAC blocks
Cut the tape to length for the drain, penetration, junction or joint being detailed
Remove the release paper and install onto the prepared substrate
Mould the tape to suit the detail
Roll with the ARDEX Brass Roller and the ARDEX Small Hand Roller to confirm uniform adhesion and work out all edges
Overlap tape to tape a minimum of 50mm
Check the tape is not punctured or damaged before the membrane goes on
Apply the specified ARDEX membrane over the fleece face

ARDEX STB Tape is a self-adhesive butyl sealing tape used to create a waterproof seal at drains, penetrations, junctions and joints before an ARDEX liquid applied or Weldtec membrane goes down. The self-adhesive butyl underside bonds to the prepared substrate and the polypropylene fleece face is there for the following ARDEX membrane or coating to key into. It is also the bond breaker for approved ARDEX water-based liquid applied membranes, and handles detailing, terminations and liquid transitions on ARDEX WPM 002, ARDEX WPM 155 Rapid Plus and ARDEX Weldtec membranes. It is not a stand alone waterproofing product. Published figures are nominal values tested to EN 12311-1, ASTM D 1000 and ASTM D 2979, with no accredited report number cited and no Australian Standard classification claimed.

ARDEX STB Tape is not to be used as a stand alone waterproofing product and must be covered by the ARDEX membrane system. It is not to be left UV exposed. Store in a cool dry place. Do not puncture or damage the tape before the subsequent ARDEX membrane is applied. Concrete and other porous substrates must be primed with an appropriate ARDEX primer first, and AAC blocks need several coats of ARDEX WPM 265 or ARDEX Multiprime. Apply between 0C and 40C. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and wear protective gloves, clothing and eye protection.
