How to Use

Peel and stick from the lowest point so laps shed water, overlap side edge laps 60mm and top edge laps 150mm, then pressure roll the membrane, overlaps, corners, connections and edgesMechanically prepare and vacuum clean the substrate to remove all dirt, dust, curing compounds, oils, grease, surface sealers and any other contaminants
Leave the surface smooth, sound, clean and free from sharp edges, loose or other materials which may damage the membrane
Treat damaged concrete between 2mm and 30mm with ARDEX A46, and spalling concrete with the ARDEX Concrete Repair range such as ARDEX BR 345
Check substrate moisture; above 80% relative humidity (ASTM F2170) or 15gm/m2/24hrs (ASTM F1869) apply two coats of ARDEX WPM 300 (HydrEpoxy) at 3m2 per litre and allow a minimum of 3 days drying before ARDEX WPM 240
Prime all prepared surfaces except polystyrene blocks with ARDEX WPM 240 at 5m2 to 6m2 per litre and allow to dry
Prime polystyrene blocks with ARDEX WPM 300 (HydrEpoxy)
Pre-plan the application so laps do not occur within corners or penetrations
Start the membrane from the lowest point to enable laps to shed water
Lay the sheet without incorporating air bubbles under the membrane or wrinkles in the membrane
Overlap all side edge laps by 60mm minimum to the 60mm line marked on the roll
Overlap all top edge laps by 150mm minimum
Firmly roll the membrane onto the prepared substrate with a suitable pressure roller, paying close attention to all overlaps, corners, connections and edges
Finish around penetrations with ARDEX Bituminous Roof Sealant
Apply a second layer with laps staggered to the first layer where a specification requires it in critical environments
Terminate in accordance with AS4654.2, fixing an ARDEX Pressure Seal Strip at maximum 150mm centres and sealing the top edge with an approved ARDEX sealant
Place protection material between the membrane and granular backfill, with a suitable protection board and drainage system, before backfilling

Technical overview

ARDEX WPM 3000X is a peel and stick bituminous and asphalt membrane protected by a cross laminated high-density polyethylene film, made from a bitumen and asphalt compound modified with SBS and high tack resins. It is installed without the use of open flames, self seals on contact with the substrate and can be used as a Radon and Methane gas barrier. Typical applications are foundations, retaining walls and below-ground work over concrete, blockwork, polystyrene blocks, structural or marine plywood and compressed fibre cement sheets, primed with ARDEX WPM 240. Membrane termination detail is to be in accordance with AS4654.2. The published figures are nominal values against the EN and ASTM test methods listed on the data sheet. No accredited test certificate and no Australian Standard classification is claimed for the membrane itself.

ARDEX WPM 3000X must not be left UV exposed for extended periods and care must be taken not to damage the membrane prior to backfill. Application temperature is 5C to 40C. Pre-plan the application so laps do not occur within corners or penetrations. The membrane must be protected against potential damage by the placement of protection material between the membrane and granular backfill, with a suitable protection board and drainage system. Store in a covered area protected against sunlight and UV exposure, with rolls vertical on a smooth floor so the edges are not damaged. The SDS classifies the product as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL, Carcinogenicity Category 2, suspected of causing cancer, so obtain special instructions before use and use appropriate PPE.
