Ardex WPM 3000X Shelterseal
ARDEX WPM 3000X Shelterseal is a cutting-edge self-adhesive bituminous waterproofing membrane designed to provide exceptional protection against water ingress. Its unique construction incorporates a cross-laminated high-density polyethylene (HDPE) film, which not only enhances the membrane's self-adhesive properties but also imparts remarkable dimensional stability and elongation characteristics, making it perfect for below-ground applications. The addition of a bituminous compound further enhances its mechanical strength, durability, and resistance to heat, shape deformation, and chemicals.

Technical overview
Key applications
- Foundations
- Retaining walls
- Below-ground applications
- Radon gas barrier
- Methane gas barrier
- Installation in restricted spaces where open flames cannot be used
- Second staggered layer where a specification requires it in critical environments
Surface suitability
- Concrete (primed with ARDEX WPM 240 at 5m2 to 6m2 per litre and allowed to dry)
- Blockwork (primed with ARDEX WPM 240 at 5m2 to 6m2 per litre and allowed to dry)
- Polystyrene blocks (primed with ARDEX WPM 300 HydrEpoxy, not ARDEX WPM 240)
- Structural or marine plywood (primed with ARDEX WPM 240 at 5m2 to 6m2 per litre and allowed to dry)
- Compressed fibre cement sheet (installed as per manufacturer's instructions and primed with ARDEX WPM 240)
- Damp or green concrete (two coats of ARDEX WPM 300 HydrEpoxy at 3m2 per litre, dried a minimum of 3 days before ARDEX WPM 240)
ARDEX WPM 3000X must not be left UV exposed for extended periods and care must be taken not to damage the membrane prior to backfill. Application temperature is 5C to 40C. Pre-plan the application so laps do not occur within corners or penetrations. The membrane must be protected against potential damage by the placement of protection material between the membrane and granular backfill, with a suitable protection board and drainage system. Store in a covered area protected against sunlight and UV exposure, with rolls vertical on a smooth floor so the edges are not damaged. The SDS classifies the product as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL, Carcinogenicity Category 2, suspected of causing cancer, so obtain special instructions before use and use appropriate PPE.

Frequently asked questions
-
Where is WPM 3000X Shelterseal used?
CompatibilityWPM 3000X is a below-ground HDPE sheet waterproofing membrane designed for foundations, retaining walls, basements, lift shafts, and tunnels.
-
What temperature range can WPM 3000X handle?
PerformanceWPM 3000X has a wide service temperature range from -40°C to +80°C, making it suitable for buried applications across all Australian climates.
-
How is WPM 3000X installed?
InstallationWPM 3000X is loose-laid against the substrate with overlapped seams that are mechanically locked or heat-welded for a continuous waterproof barrier. Concrete is then poured against the membrane.
-
Does WPM 3000X resist groundwater pressure?
ComplianceYes. WPM 3000X is designed to resist hydrostatic pressure from groundwater in below-ground structures and is tested to high static water-head pressures.
-
Is WPM 3000X chemically resistant?
PerformanceYes. The HDPE construction resists most soil-borne chemicals, salts, and aggressive groundwater conditions encountered in below-ground installations.
