How to Use

Bond with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive by brush or roller to both the sheet underside and the substrate at 4m2 to 8m2 per litre, then heat weld the 40mm minimum side and end lapsConfirm the substrate is concrete, brick, plywood, CFC sheet, timber or paper-faced plasterboard, and that no LOSP treated plywood is present
Mechanically prepare and vacuum clean to remove all dirt, dust, curing compounds, oils, grease, surface sealers and any other contaminants
Leave the surface sound, clean, dry and free from sharp edges, loose or other materials which may damage the membrane
Treat damaged concrete between 2mm and 30mm with ARDEX A 46, and spalling concrete with the ARDEX Concrete Repair range such as ARDEX BR 345
Where the concrete needs smoothing, apply a slurry coat of 1 part ARDEX WPM 405 to 1 part water to 4 parts cement, maximum 2mm thick
Check substrate moisture; above 80% relative humidity (ASTM F2170) or 15gm/m2/24hrs (ASTM F1869) apply two coats of ARDEX WPM 300 (HydrEpoxy) at 3m2 per litre and allow a minimum of 24 hours drying and full cure
Prime compressed fibre cement sheet, installed as per manufacturer's instructions, with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive
Cut ARDEX Flashing Tape to size and adhere it with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive at all external corners, pipe penetrations and drainage waste outlets
Apply a neat primer coat of ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive to the prepared substrate and allow it to totally dry
Apply another neat coat of ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive to the primed substrate and to the sheet underside at 4m2 to 8m2 per litre, then bring them together once tacky
Keep ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive off any area that will later be spliced or seamed, because glued laps cannot be welded
Roll out the membrane, cut to the measured length and smooth on contact to minimise air entrapment beneath the membrane
Compress the bonded portion of the sheet to the substrate with a pressure roller, and lay the membrane tightly into all corners and transitions without over-stretching it
Install with a minimum 40mm overlap on both side and end laps
Solvent wipe the membrane and allow to dry, then heat weld all seams and laps with an approved hot-air welding unit
Probe every seam and lap to confirm the weld and re-weld if necessary
Glue and heat weld the membrane to the ARDEX Flashing Tape at every detailed area
Roll the installed membrane with a weighted roller or large water filled heavy roller to ensure uniform substrate adhesion
Terminate in accordance with AS 4654 using an ARDEX Pressure Seal Strip, an over-flashing, or a minimum 15mm x 15mm reglet filled with ARDEX RA 88 PLUS or ARDEX CA 20 P
Where ancillary ARDEX products go directly onto the membrane, solvent wipe the area, allow to flash off, then scrub in ARDEX WPM 299 Seam Primer and allow to completely dry
Place rubber matting under each decking cradle or tiling pedestal before loading the membrane

Technical overview

ARDEX WPM 715 is a weldable single layer external roofing and deck membrane, formulated with properties that resist ageing from heat, sunlight and ozone. It has excellent gas impermeability, remains flexible at low temperatures and is suitable in all climatic zones, used in both horizontal and vertical applications for UV exposed environments such as decks and rooftops. It is bonded with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive and the 40mm minimum side and end laps are heat welded, so no mechanical fixings are required. ARDEX publish the membrane as compliant to AS 4654.1 and list AS 4654.1 passes for durability, temperature resistance and ultraviolet resistance, plus a pass for use with potable water under AS/NZS 4020:2005. These are published as nominal values against the test methods shown; no accredited certificate number is quoted on the data sheet. Installation must be carried out by an ARDEX Accredited Applicator.

The application of ARDEX WPM 715 must be carried out by an ARDEX Accredited Applicator. The membrane can withstand light maintenance foot trafficable environments but is not suitable within a medium to heavy trafficable environments. It shall not be laid under tension in any circumstances. Do not apply any ARDEX engineered screeds directly to ARDEX WPM 715. The use of LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative) treated plywood must NOT be used under ARDEX WPM 715 in any circumstances. Place rubber matting under every decking cradle and tiling pedestal to reduce potential damage to the membrane. Do not apply ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive over an area that will later be spliced or seamed, because glued laps and seams cannot be welded. Store rolls horizontally between 5C and 30C, out of direct sunlight, away from sources of puncture and physical damage and away from ignition sources and open flame.
