Ardex BR10 ZP Zinc Rich Primer 1L
Zinc-rich primer for exposed rebar. Brush on one coat, fully dry in about an hour, then straight into the repair mortar.
ARDEX BR 10 ZP is a single component zinc-rich primer for reinforcing steel. It gives long-term corrosion protection by galvanic action, forming a barrier over the steel. It is compatible with the entire ARDEX Concrete Repair range. 1 litre tin, grey.
Where to use it
- Exposed reinforcing steel in concrete repair areas, before the ARDEX repair mortar goes on
- Corroded rebar cleaned to a bright condition by grit blasting or abrasive power tools
- Marine, industrial and coastal structures, where ARDEX highly recommends it
Why waterproofers buy it
- Single component. Stir it and brush it on
- One continuous coat at 120 microns wet gives 50 microns dry film thickness
- Touch dry in 45 minutes at 20°C or 15 minutes at 35°C
- Fully dry and recoatable in 50 minutes to 1 hour at 20°C
- Galvanic protection barrier over the steel
- Compatible with the entire ARDEX Concrete Repair range
- ARDEX 10 year product guarantee
Coverage
1 litre tin: approximately 8 to 9 m² per litre at one coat.
Not for
Ambient or substrate temperatures at 5°C and falling or in extreme heat (work between 5°C and 35°C), thinning with any additive, or leaving primed steel exposed for an extended period. Flammable liquid and vapour, keep it away from ignition sources. Clean up with solvent based cleaners.

Technical overview
Key applications
- Priming exposed reinforcing steel in concrete repair areas
- Long-term corrosion protection of reinforcing steel by galvanic protection
- Priming reinforcing steel ahead of the ARDEX Concrete Repair range
- Protecting reinforcing steel in marine structures
- Protecting reinforcing steel in industrial and coastal structures
Surface suitability
- Exposed reinforcing steel (cleaned to a bright condition by grit blasting or abrasive power tools)
- Corroded reinforcing steel (completely exposed, broken out at least 20mm minimum behind the bar, all loose scale and corrosion deposits removed)
- Reinforcing steel that is completely dry after high pressure washing
- Reinforcing steel in aggressive environments such as marine, industrial or coastal structures
Do not apply in ambient or substrate temperatures 5C and falling, or extreme hot temperatures. Application ambient or substrate temperatures between 5C and 35C. Do not thin product with any additive. The product must be thoroughly stirred before each use. The prepared reinforcing steel must be completely dry prior to application, and once dry the primer must be applied immediately to eliminate possible surface contamination. The primed reinforcing steel should not be left exposed for an extended period; apply the ARDEX Concrete Repair product once the primer is fully dry. Hazardous chemical and dangerous goods, Poisons Schedule S5, flammable liquid with a flash point above 23C. May cause irritation and an allergic reaction to the skin, serious eye injury and irritation to the respiratory system. Wear protective gloves, clothing, eye and face protection and ensure adequate ventilation during application.

Frequently asked questions
-
Where is BR10 ZP used?
CompatibilityBR10 ZP is a single-component zinc-rich primer used to protect exposed reinforcing steel during concrete repair operations, providing active corrosion protection.
-
How does the zinc-rich primer work?
PerformanceBR10 ZP delivers high-purity zinc particles that protect steel through sacrificial cathodic action - the zinc corrodes preferentially, preserving the underlying steel.
-
How is BR10 ZP applied?
InstallationApply BR10 ZP by brush directly to cleaned, abraded reinforcing steel in two coats. The steel must be clean, rust-free, and free of contaminants for maximum protection.
-
How fast does BR10 ZP cure?
PerformanceBR10 ZP has fast touch-dry and cure times, allowing rapid follow-on application of repair mortars (refer to TDS for specific overcoat windows).
-
Which ARDEX repair mortars use BR10 ZP?
CompatibilityBR10 ZP is the recommended steel primer for the ARDEX BR concrete repair range including BR 345 and BR 460 Flow.
