Technical overview
Key applications
- Planter boxes
- Retaining walls
- Green roofs
- Under decking and paver pedestal applications
- Below-ground work with protection board and drainage before backfilling
- Direct stick tile applications over the membrane
- Bonded and unbonded screed applications over the membrane
Surface suitability
- Concrete (sound, clean, dry and free from sharp edges; damaged concrete 2mm - 30mm treated with ARDEX A 46)
- Screed (bonded with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive)
- Masonry (bonded with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive)
- Plywood (bonded with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive)
- Compressed fibre cement sheet (installed to manufacturer instructions and primed with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive)
- Some PVC types (confirm with ARDEX Technical Services)
- Damp or green concrete above 80% relative humidity (ASTM F2170) primed with two coats of ARDEX WPM 300 HydrEpoxy at 3m2/litre per coat
Aggressive flaxes, reed, bamboo and other plants that exhibit rhizome formulation, for example Phragmites Australis, Phragmites Communis and Typha, should be avoided. The application of ARDEX Root Repell must be carried out by an ARDEX Accredited Applicator. The membrane is not suitable as a trafficable surface or to be left UV exposed for long periods of time, and for direct tiling or screeding it must not be exposed to UV greater than 30 days. Do not apply any ARDEX engineered screeds directly to ARDEX Root Repell. Do not use a medium or hard bristle broom, as this may partially remove the polypropylene fleece. Protection material must be placed between the membrane and granular backfill. ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive is for external use only and must not be applied over any area that will later be spliced or seamed. Store rolls horizontally between 5C and 30C, out of direct sunlight and away from ignition sources and open flame. Use appropriate PPE.

Frequently asked questions
-
What is WPM 1000 RR used for?
CompatibilityWPM 1000 Root Repell is a polyurethane waterproofing membrane with a built-in root inhibitor (Preventol B2), specifically designed for planter boxes, green roofs, and applications where root penetration is a risk.
-
How does the root inhibitor work?
PerformancePreventol B2 is an FLL-tested root inhibitor that prevents root penetration through the membrane without leaching into the surrounding soil, providing permanent root resistance.
-
What thickness is WPM 1000 RR?
InstallationApply at a consistent 1.2mm dry film thickness in two coats. This delivers both the waterproofing performance and the root-resistance certification.
-
Is WPM 1000 RR compatible with ARDEX tile adhesives?
CompatibilityYes. WPM 1000 RR is compatible with selected ARDEX tile adhesive systems where tiling over a planter or green-roof membrane is required.
-
Is WPM 1000 RR root-resistance certified?
ComplianceYes. WPM 1000 RR is FLL-tested for root resistance, the European standard accepted in Australia for green-roof and planter-box waterproofing.
