The membrane is eat-welded at laps and seams, ensuring a superior sheet with consistent thickness for efficient installation.

The membrane exhibits excellent flexibility and elongation, eliminating the need for a fillet or bond breaker.

It also offers outstanding resistance to tearing, cracking, bubbling, and absorption, ensuring long-lasting waterproofing protection.

How to Use

Bond both the sheet underside and the substrate with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive at 4m2 - 8m2/litre, then heat weld all side and end laps at a minimum 40mm overlapRemove all dirt, dust, curing compounds, oils, grease, surface sealers and any other contaminants by mechanical methods and vacuum cleaning
Prepare the surface to leave it sound, clean, dry and free from sharp edges and loose material
Treat damaged concrete between 2mm and 30mm with ARDEX A 46, and spalling concrete with the ARDEX Concrete Repair range
Where substrate moisture is above 80% relative humidity (ASTM F2170), apply two coats of ARDEX WPM 300 HydrEpoxy at 3m2/litre per coat and allow a minimum 24 hours to dry
Prime compressed fibre cement sheet substrates with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive
Fill all transition substrate gaps so the membrane is adequately supported
Detail all external corners, pipe penetrations and drainage waste outlets with ARDEX Flashing Tape cut to size and adhered with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive
Apply a neat primer coat of ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive to the prepared substrate and allow it to dry totally
Apply a second neat coat of ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive to the primed substrate and to the sheet underside at 4m2 - 8m2/litre and bring together once tacky
Roll out the membrane, cut to the measured length and smooth on contact to minimise air entrapment
Compress the bonded portion of the sheet to the substrate with a pressure roller
Lay the membrane tightly into all corners and transitions without over-stretching it, using the ARDEX Brass Roller and ARDEX Small Hand Roller
Install all side and end laps at a minimum 40mm overlap and heat weld with an approved hot-air welding unit
Glue and heat weld the membrane to the ARDEX Flashing Tape at all detailed areas
Probe every seam and lap to confirm the weld, and re-weld where necessary
Roll the installed membrane with a weighted or large water-filled heavy roller to ensure uniform substrate adhesion
Terminate the membrane to AS 4654 using a pressure seal strip, an over-flashing or a minimum 15mm x 15mm reglet
Place protection material and a suitable drainage system between the membrane and any granular backfill

Technical overview

ARDEX Root Repell is a polypropylene-lined weldable sheet waterproofing membrane, 1.2mm gauge, specially formulated for planter boxes, retaining walls and green roofs. It contains the premium root inhibitor Preventol B2, which repels root growth without killing the root, and passes the Lupine / FFL root resistance test. It is bonded with ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive and heat welded at all laps and seams with a minimum 40mm overlap. The TDS states compliance to AS 4654.1. BRANZ tested the membrane to AS 4654.1-2012 under Report DC16981-05-1, where it met the requirements to be classified Class III High Extensibility. Application must be carried out by an ARDEX Accredited Applicator.

Aggressive flaxes, reed, bamboo and other plants that exhibit rhizome formulation, for example Phragmites Australis, Phragmites Communis and Typha, should be avoided. The application of ARDEX Root Repell must be carried out by an ARDEX Accredited Applicator. The membrane is not suitable as a trafficable surface or to be left UV exposed for long periods of time, and for direct tiling or screeding it must not be exposed to UV greater than 30 days. Do not apply any ARDEX engineered screeds directly to ARDEX Root Repell. Do not use a medium or hard bristle broom, as this may partially remove the polypropylene fleece. Protection material must be placed between the membrane and granular backfill. ARDEX WA 98 Adhesive is for external use only and must not be applied over any area that will later be spliced or seamed. Store rolls horizontally between 5C and 30C, out of direct sunlight and away from ignition sources and open flame. Use appropriate PPE.
