Mohair is short and fine, so it lays down a smooth, even coat with very little stipple. That matters on primers and clear or decorative coatings where roller texture would telegraph through into the finished surface. A longer nap holds more product and is the better option when you are working coating into a rough or profiled substrate.

Internal corners, wall to floor junctions and tight returns are where rolled coatings most often go thin or get missed altogether. A corner frame carries the cover into the angle so you can keep a wet edge right through the junction instead of stopping short and patching in with a brush. It earns its keep on shower bases, balconies and planter boxes where the detailing takes as long as the open field.

Roller covers and frames are broadly standardised by cover length and core diameter, so covers of a matching size will generally swap between frames. The safe approach is to match the cover length to the frame you already own, or buy the frame and cover together if you are unsure. A mismatched core is the usual reason a cover spins loose or walks off the cage part way through a roll.

Damp the cover lightly and spin it out hard before water based products so it loads evenly and sheds any loose fibre, and keep it dry for solvent based coatings. Between coats on the same day, wrap the cover tightly in plastic so it does not skin over, rather than washing it out each time. Once the job is finished, wash water based residue out straight away, because cured membrane will not come back out of the fabric.
