Felt-faced TPE joint tape. The membrane bonds into it, not just onto it.

FORSPEC EXPANDOFLEX FT JOINT TAPE is a felt-laminated thermoplastic elastomer tape for structural and movement joints built into a liquid or sheet membrane. The TPE core carries the movement, the felt edges give the membrane a key, and the underside is epoxy anchored with PROBOND 1100.

What it's for

  • Primary and transverse movement joints (PMJ and TMJ)
  • Base-to-wall transitions and floor-to-wall upturns

Why waterproofers buy it

  • Membrane terminates into the felt, no cold joint
  • Root resistant, UV stable, flexible from minus 30°C to plus 80°C
  • 10 year Forspec product warranty

Specs

TPE core, polyester felt both edges. PROBOND 1100 at 1.0 to 1.5 mm, minimum 40 mm per face. Install at 5°C to 35°C. Cure 24 to 48 hours before membrane.

Not for

Load bearing, coverplate duty or bad joint design. Never epoxy the felt face or the centre zone. Not below 5°C or above 35°C.

Dual felt-laminated flanges, so the membrane bonds into the tape for a seamless termination
Transversely flexible and longitudinally stable, absorbing joint movement while holding its line
Root resistant and UV stable, thermally flexible from -30C to +80C

Technical overview

FORSPEC EXPANDOFLEX FT JOINT TAPE is a felt-laminated thermoplastic elastomer expansion joint tape for critical structural and movement joints where the joint must be waterproofed and then integrated into a liquid-applied or sheet membrane system. A high-strength central elastomeric core carries the movement, while polyester felt bonded to both edges gives the membrane a mechanical key so it terminates into the tape rather than onto it. The elastomeric underside is epoxy anchored to the concrete with PROBOND 1100. No accredited third-party test report is presently held for this product. All performance characteristics are manufacturer data and verification testing has been programmed.

Key applications

  • Primary movement joints (PMJ) and transverse movement joints (TMJ)
  • Structural movement joints in above and below ground construction
  • Base-to-wall transitions and floor-to-wall upturns
  • Tunnel, retaining wall and podium slab joints
  • Planter and green roof joints requiring root resistance
  • Joints requiring integration into a liquid-applied or sheet membrane system

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (diamond ground or shot blasted to remove laitance and open a bonding profile)
  • Concrete (dry, structurally sound and free from dust, curing agents, form oil, sealers and any bond inhibiting contaminant)
  • Concrete (damaged or spalled arrises reinstated with FORBUILD 100 or FORCRETE 100 and fully cured)

Only the bottom elastomeric side is bondable with epoxy. Never apply adhesive to the felt face and never allow epoxy to contact the felt-laminated upper surface or bridge the central movement zone, because epoxy across the centre destroys the joint's ability to move. Do not coat the central movement zone with membrane. Do not install below 5C or above 35C. This is not a load-bearing joint and not an expansion joint coverplate: it waterproofs the joint, it does not carry load, and it is not a substitute for correct joint design, because a tape cannot rectify an undersized or wrongly positioned joint. The joint design must conform to the movement allowance and deflection dimensions specified by the project structural engineer. Do not dilute or re-mix cured PROBOND 1100 epoxy. Use a hot air gun for welding and forming, never an open flame.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What is EXPANDOFLEX FT used for?
    Compatibility

EXPANDOFLEX FT is a wide-format felt-laminated TPE joint tape for structural and movement joints in tunnels, retaining walls, slab joints, parapets, and waterproofing transitions. The 250mm width handles the largest movement joints.

  • Specifications?
    Performance

250mm width by 25m roll. 1.5mm thick (±0.15mm). Grey TPE core with white felt flanks. 580% transverse elongation - the highest in the Forspec joint tape range. Tear resistance greater than 25 N/mm. Density approximately 1.3 g/cm³.

  • How is it installed?
    Installation

Dual-bonded felt edges embed into both liquid-applied and sheet-applied waterproofing systems. Apply at 5-40°C ambient. Position across the structural joint with the centre TPE band spanning the movement zone.

  • Which systems is it compatible with?
    Compatibility

Compatible with the Forspec liquid membrane range (906 WPU, 929 HV/SL, 988 CWP) and sheet membranes (ACTFLEX 5000). The wide format handles structural joints that smaller tapes can't span.

  • When is the wide format needed?
    Performance

Specify 250mm EXPANDOFLEX for major structural joints (50mm+ movement), tunnel construction joints, retaining wall expansion joints, and parapet movement joints where the joint width and movement are too large for 120mm tapes.
