Specs

250mm wide. Stainless steel.

Not for

External corners, or corners subjected to high lateral loads.

Tensile strength of 15.49 MPa against a 12.00 MPa minimum requirement
Heat weldable at 190C to 200C for continuous, leak-proof on-site joints
Prefabricated intersection pieces eliminate the site-fabricated tees and crosses where waterstops typically fail

Technical overview

PREBAR PVC WATERSTOP is a thermoplastic polyvinyl chloride profile cast into concrete joints to form a continuous watertight barrier through the structure. The internal profile suits construction and expansion joints in horizontal and vertical cast-in-situ concrete. It is manufactured and tested to BS 2782, recording 15.49 MPa tensile strength against a 12.00 MPa minimum and 330% elongation at break against a 3.00% minimum, with water absorption of 0.19% to ISO 62 and hardness of 75 Shore A. Batch certificates of analysis are conducted on the raw material used in production and independent laboratory test results are available on request. The Technical Data Sheet cites no report number and no NATA or CodeMark certificate is held for this product.

Key applications

  • Water-retaining structures - basement slabs, lift pits, retaining walls and suspended slabs
  • Swimming pools, reservoirs, water towers and sewage tanks
  • Dams, culverts, canals and spillways
  • Bunded areas around liquid-retaining tanks
  • Water-excluding structures - basements and underground car parks
  • Tunnels and subways
  • Abutments and retaining walls
  • Roof decks and podium areas
  • Construction and expansion joints in horizontal and vertical cast-in-situ concrete

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (cast-in-situ construction and expansion joints
  • waterstop centred in the joint and fully encased on both sides with the design cover maintained)

Not a waterproofing membrane. PREBAR PVC WATERSTOP seals a joint within the structure; it does not waterproof a surface. It must be fully encased in concrete on both sides with the design cover maintained, and centred and correctly aligned in the joint - an off-centre waterstop halves the water path on one side. Do not install over dirty, wet or contaminated surfaces. Do not fold, kink or crease the profile, as a folded waterstop creates a permanent water path. All joins must be fully heat welded; taped, glued or overlapped joins are not acceptable. Do not overheat during welding, as PVC degrades above the stated welding range. Secure vertical installations so the waterstop stays in position throughout the pour. Do not store above 40C or in direct sunlight. Joint design, profile selection and hydrostatic duty are the design responsibility of the project engineer.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What is PREBAR Internal Waterstop used for?
    Compatibility

PREBAR Internal is a cast-in-situ PVC waterstop for watertight sealing in concrete construction and expansion joints - used in water-retaining structures (tanks, pools, basements) and water-excluding structures (below-grade walls, foundations).

  • How does an internal waterstop work?
    Performance

The waterstop is positioned centrally in the concrete joint before the pour. Once concrete cures around it, the waterstop creates a continuous flexible barrier through the joint - water can't migrate from one side to the other.

  • How is it installed?
    Installation

Position the waterstop centrally in the joint formwork before concrete is poured, ensuring half the width is embedded each side of the joint. Heat-weld waterstop splices for a continuous barrier. Pour and finish concrete normally.

  • Specifications?
    Compatibility

250mm wide by 12.5m roll (also available 150mm x 15m). Recommended 10mm thickness. Blue thermoplastic PVC with Shore A 75 hardness. 330% elongation at break. Service temperature -20°C to +50°C. Complies with BS 2782.

  • Heat-weldable joints?
    Performance

Yes. PREBAR splices are heat-welded with a thermo-fusion tool to create continuous waterstop runs around corners and at intersections. The welded joints achieve the same waterproof barrier as the parent material.
