What prep is required?

Clean the existing tiles thoroughly to remove all dirt, grease, mould, and loose grout. Repair any cracked tiles or grout joints first. Then prime if specified and apply 400 Clear in two coats per the supplied instructions.

What substrates does the kit work on?

The 400 Clear system bonds to ceramic, porcelain, and most stone tiles. For unusual tile types (some natural stones, painted surfaces), test bond on a small area first. Won't bond to greasy or contaminated surfaces.

Is this a permanent fix?

ACTFLEX 400 Clear provides up to 5 years of waterproofing protection over existing tiles - a major service-life extension. For permanent demolish-and-rebuild waterproofing, use the standard ACTFLEX 906 WPU under-tile system instead.

How to Use

Apply three thin, even coats by trowel, brush or roller, first coat with a mohair roller, minimum 4 hours between coatsInspect every surface: it must be stable, sound and structurally intact, free of voids, protrusions and movement
Replace every broken, popping or loose tile and remove all compromised, loose or damaged grout
Repair all cracks in concrete, render or screeds with ACTFLEX MS PRO or Soudal T-Rex before coating
Remove dust, grease, laitance and all loose, flaking or friable material with stiff brushes, scrapers and vacuum equipment
Treat moss and mould with household bleach diluted 1 part bleach to 2 parts water, rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry completely
Remove grease with appropriate detergents, rinse the detergent off, final-rinse with clean water and dry
Where water is trapped beneath the tiles, aerate the substrate for a minimum of 3-5 days and confirm it is dry
Confirm the surface has stayed moisture-free for at least 3-5 days with moisture content below 4%
Fill and fillet all corners, wall and floor junctions, hob junctions and penetrations with ACTFLEX MS PRO or Soudal T-Rex, tooled smooth and cured tack free
Complete an adhesion trial area on the substrate before full application
Stir thoroughly before use to a uniform consistency
Use neat and undiluted for trowel application; for brush or roller dilute 2 parts ACTFLEX 400 CLEAR to 1 part clean water, mechanically stirred
Apply the first coat with a mohair roller for full wetting into grout lines and surface texture
Allow a minimum of 4 hours between coats at 25C and 50% RH and apply all coats within 48 hours
Build three thin, even coats to 0.2 mm dry film thickness over tiles and 0.5 mm over joins, grout lines, mortar, concrete and level surfaces
Where slip resistance is required, broadcast ACTFLEX ANTISLIP onto the wet second coat and lock it in with the third coat
Check for a continuous, pinhole-free film over every grout line and junction, fillets fully encapsulated and no ponded material
Keep rain, washing and standing water off the surface for at least 3-5 days; full cure is 5-7 days after the final coat

ACTFLEX 400 CLEAR is a single-pack co-polymer emulsion with synthetic rubber latex, supplied in this kit for stopping leaks through tiled balconies, terraces, courtyards and internal wet areas without removing the tiles. It is applied over the existing tiles as three thin coats with no primer and no system build-up, with all corners, wall and floor junctions, hob junctions and penetrations filled and filleted first, and it fixes the leak for up to five years. It is not a waterproofing membrane and is never specified as one, and no membrane classification applies or is claimed. No accredited test reports exist for this product and all performance values are published as typical Forspec R&D characteristic values. No product or performance warranty is offered.

It does not fix broken, popping or loose tiles or loose grout; every defective tile and grout line is rectified first and all cracks repaired with ACTFLEX MS PRO or Soudal T-Rex before application. Never apply to a damp surface - substrate moisture must be below 4% and the surface completely dry, and never apply over water trapped beneath the tiles until the substrate has been aerated 3-5 days and confirmed dry. Do not apply below 10C surface temperature. Apply all coats within 48 hours of each other. No rain, washing or standing water on the surface for at least 3-5 days after the final coat. The film may turn cloudy white where water ponds or sits and some yellowing may occur within the service life. Not slip-resistant as supplied - broadcast ACTFLEX ANTISLIP to the designed slip rating. Complete an adhesion trial area on every substrate before full application. Classified a Hazardous Chemical and Dangerous Goods - causes skin and serious eye irritation, may cause respiratory irritation, and is toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
