ACTFLEX HBR is a two-part, high-build epoxy repair mortar for structural concrete repair, patching, rebuilding and anchoring. It comes pre-filled, so there is no measuring sand on site. It mixes to a non-slump mortar that trowels onto floors, walls and soffits, and goes onto damp concrete.

How to Use

Mix full kits at 2 parts A to 1 part B and apply by steel trowel or spatula, up to 25 mm per pass, at 1.5 kg/m2 per 1.0 mm of thickness.Confirm the substrate is structurally sound, clean and free of dust, laitance, grease, oil, curing agents and all bond-inhibiting contaminants
Prepare mechanically by grinding, shot-blasting or scarifying to expose a sound, open-textured surface, and remove all loose and friable material
Vacuum-clean the area thoroughly
Remove all standing water and any surface water film before placement; the substrate may be damp
Reinstate large-section damage with a FORSPEC concrete repair system such as FORBUILD 100 or FORCRETE 100 where the geometry exceeds the scope of a trowel-applied mortar
Rectify structural and live cracks before the repair proceeds, using PROBOND 1100, CRACK PRO 1200PS or CRACKLOCK E400L to suit the crack
Where the approved specification calls for it, prime with ACTFLEX EPOXY GROUT and allow the primer to become tacky
Mix full kits only, combining the full contents of both containers at 2 parts Part A to 1 part Part B
Mix with a slow-speed mixer at 300-400 RPM fitted with a helical or paddle blade for 2 to 3 minutes until a uniform, streak-free grey is achieved, scraping the sides and base
Use the mixed material within its pot life of 40 minutes at 25C and 50% RH
Apply by steel trowel or spatula, pressing firmly into the prepared substrate to wet out the surface and eliminate voids
Compact and shape to the required profile
Place vertical and overhead work in layers up to 20-25 mm per pass, allowing each pass to stiffen and keying the surface while workable
For bonding, apply a thin continuous layer to both faces, join while both layers are wet and support the assembly until initial set
Finish smooth with a steel trowel, or produce a stippled key with a sponge trowel where a coating or render will follow
Protect fresh repairs from rain, standing water, foot traffic and mechanical load until initial set at 10-12 hours
Protect from immersion and chemical exposure until full cure at 7 days

Technical overview

ACTFLEX HBR is a two-component, pre-proportioned, high-build structural epoxy bonding and repair mortar for structural concrete repair, patching, rebuilding and anchoring where high compressive strength and high bond strength are required. It is supplied pre-filled with no site addition of sand or fillers and mixes to a non-slump, trowelable mortar that places on horizontal, vertical and overhead surfaces, internally and externally, curing to a dense, zero-shrinkage repair. No Australian Standard currently governs this product class, and the values in Technical Data are manufacturer R&D typical values, with accredited testing not yet undertaken.

Surface suitability

Damp substrates are accepted, but there must be no standing water or surface water film

Apply only between 15C and 35C, with relative humidity below 80%. Substrates may be damp, but do not apply over standing water or a surface water film, and protect the repair from standing water until fully cured. Concrete must be cured a minimum of 28 days with a compressive strength of at least 25 MPa. Maximum 20-25 mm thickness per pass on vertical and overhead surfaces, building greater depths in successive passes. ACTFLEX HBR is not a waterproofing membrane. Safety-critical anchoring requires project-specific design and written FORSPEC confirmation. Do not re-temper the mix or add solvents, fillers or sand, and do not dilute unless approved in writing by an authorised FORSPEC representative. Mix full kits only; do not split kits or alter the mix ratio. Always complete a test area before full application. Both components are skin sensitisers classified DANGER: wear chemical splash goggles or safety glasses with side shields to AS/NZS 1337.1, chemical-resistant gloves, overalls, a PVC apron and safety footwear, and use a Type A-P filter respirator for Part A and a Type AK-P filter respirator for Part B where ventilation is insufficient.
