Rapid-drying screed binder. Below 3% moisture in 24 hours, 30 MPa at 28 days, for bonded, unbonded and floating screeds.

FORCEM SCREED BINDER is a single-component, cement-based hydraulic binder you batch on site: one 20 kg bag to 100 kg of clean graded sand at 5:1 by weight, with about 8.5 to 9.0 L of water. Foot traffic in about 8 hours, membrane on after about 24 hours.

Where to use it

  • Bonded screeds from 10 mm, over a FORCEM and ACTFLEX 300 slurry bond coat
  • Unbonded screeds from 40 mm over a 200 micron polyethylene slip sheet
  • Floating screeds from 55 mm over insulation or underfloor heating
  • Under tile, vinyl, timber, stone or carpet, inside or out, once the moisture limit is met

Why waterproofers buy it

  • Residual moisture below 3% after 24 hours by the CM method
  • 17 MPa at 1 day, 25 MPa at 7 days, 30 MPa at 28 days
  • Working time about 90 to 120 minutes
  • Controlled shrinkage, consistent moist-earth workability
  • Hand placed or pumped

Coverage

About 2.0 to 2.5 kg/m² of binder per 10 mm of screed. One 20 kg bag makes roughly 8 to 10 m² at 10 mm, or 2 to 2.5 m² at 40 mm.

Not for

Use as a waterproofing membrane or wearing surface, application outside 5 to 30°C, mixing with Portland cement, lime, gypsum or other binders, fine sand alone, bridging active cracks or movement joints, or floor coverings before the CM moisture test passes. Professional use only.

All values at 23°C and 50% RH.

Technical overview

FORCEM SCREED BINDER is a single-component, cement-based hydraulic binder with MineralCore Technology. Mixed at the specified 5:1 sand/aggregate-to-binder ratio with clean graded aggregate and controlled water, it produces high-strength, rapid-drying screeds with controlled shrinkage, dimensional stability and consistent moist-earth workability, for professional bonded, unbonded and floating screeds in internal and external commercial, residential and renovation work. Compressive strength is 17 MPa at 1 day, 25 MPa at 7 days and 30 MPa at 28 days. The TDS claims compliance with no Australian Standard and holds no accredited test certificate; all figures are published as typical guide data at 23C and 50% RH and are not guaranteed specification limits.

Key applications

  • Bonded screeds at a minimum thickness of 10 mm at the lowest point
  • Unbonded screeds at a minimum thickness of 40 mm at the lowest point
  • Floating screeds at a minimum thickness of 55 mm
  • Internal and external commercial, residential, renovation and repair applications
  • Screeds over underfloor-heating systems
  • Screeds to receive compatible tile, vinyl, resilient flooring, timber, natural stone or carpet
  • Pumped screed applications using approved equipment and a consistent 5:1 mix

Surface suitability

  • Concrete subfloors, bonded (mechanically prepared by diamond grinding, shot-blasting or another approved method, then vacuumed)
  • Concrete subfloors affected by rising damp or excessive moisture (two coats of ACTFLEX EP 250 applied first)
  • Unbonded over a 200 micron polyethylene slip sheet, minimum 40 mm screed thickness
  • Floating over insulation or heating systems, minimum 55 mm screed thickness
  • Over underfloor-heating systems installed to the heating-system manufacturer's instructions and project design

For professional use only. FORCEM screed is not a standalone waterproofing membrane or final wearing surface. Apply only when ambient and substrate temperatures are between 5C and 30C. Maintain the 5:1 sand/aggregate-to-binder ratio by weight. Do not add Portland cement, lime, gypsum, other binders or unapproved admixtures. Do not exceed the required total water content, retemper the mix or use material after its working time. Do not use fine sand alone or contaminated, saline, clay-bearing or excessively fine aggregate. Do not bridge active cracks, structural joints or movement joints. Minimum thickness: bonded 10 mm, unbonded 40 mm, floating 55 mm. Do not install floor coverings until curing and residual-moisture requirements are achieved, measured with an approved calcium carbide (CM) test. Protect from rain, frost, strong wind, direct heat, rapid drying and premature traffic. Use ACTFLEX 300 only where specified and do not add it to the full standard water quantity. Classified a hazardous chemical, signal word Danger: causes skin irritation and serious eye damage, may cause an allergic skin reaction and respiratory irritation, and is classified for suspected genetic effects and organ damage through prolonged or repeated exposure. Avoid generating or breathing dust.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What is FORCEM Binder used for?
    Compatibility

FORCEM is a high-performance hydraulic binder - contractors mix it with their own sand to create rapid-drying, high-strength, pumpable screeds. Used for bonded, unbonded, and floating screeds in commercial, residential, and external applications.

  • How fast does it dry?
    Performance

FORCEM screeds reach less than 3% residual moisture in 24 hours - allowing same-day or next-day membrane application. Strength gain: 17 MPa at 1 day, 25 MPa at 7 days, 30 MPa at 28 days.

  • Coverage rate?
    Installation

Coverage is 2.0-2.5 kg per m² per cm of thickness. Minimum 10mm thickness for standard screeds, minimum 55mm for floating screeds. Contractor mixes with their own sand for cost control.

  • Underfloor heating compatible?
    Compatibility

Yes. FORCEM is fully compatible with underfloor heating systems and pairs well with ACTFLEX 300 as a primer. The MineralCore technology delivers controlled shrinkage and extended working time.

  • Why use FORCEM over standard cement?
    Compliance

FORCEM eliminates the moisture and shrinkage problems of traditional sand-cement screeds. Compatible with most floor coverings (tile, vinyl, LVT, timber, textile) once the 24-hour moisture check passes.
