Torch-on base sheet, Class I to AS 4654.1. Film both sides, so the cap sheet welds straight onto it.

FORZAFLEX BASE 3mm is an APP-modified bitumen torch-on membrane for the base or intermediate ply of a multi-layer system. Polyester reinforced, with thermofusible polyethylene film on both faces. CLASS I to AS 4654.1-2012, NATA-accredited Report No. 597-1. 10 m x 1 m roll.

Where to use it

  • Roofs, as the base or intermediate ply under a cap sheet, in systems designed to AS 4654.2
  • Podiums, balconies and terraces under tiles, screed or pavers
  • Positive-side retaining walls, foundations, lift pits and wet basements
  • Primed concrete, render, screed, masonry, blockwork or metal

Why waterproofers buy it

  • Class I to AS 4654.1-2012. Cyclic movement passed, 50 cycles, no rupture, crazing or tears
  • Elongation rises after water, detergent and heat ageing tests
  • Fully torch bonded both faces. No loose ply, no water path between layers
  • Watertight as soon as it is rolled. No cure period
  • Laps you can check by eye: 3 to 6 mm of bitumen bleed-out confirms fusion

Coverage

10 m² gross per roll, about 9.1 m² effective after 75 mm side and 150 mm end laps, or about 11 rolls per 100 m². Add at least 10% on a plain roof.

Not for

Leaving exposed: cover it with a cap sheet, protection board, screed or finish. No torching onto combustible substrates, wet or green concrete, or wet primer. Class I only, so specify a higher class where the design needs Class II or III. Hot work permit and fire watch required.

Classified CLASS I under AS 4654.1-2012 by NATA-accredited Report No. 597-1

Technical overview

FORZAFLEX BASE 3mm is an APP-modified bituminous waterproofing membrane engineered as the base or intermediate layer of a multi-layer torch-applied system. It is reinforced with a high-strength non-woven polyester composite and carries a thermofusible polyethylene film on both faces, so the cap sheet welds directly onto it and every ply is fused to the one below. It is classified CLASS I under AS 4654.1-2012 by NATA-accredited Report No. 597-1, with cyclic movement passed and no failure observed. System compliance is established by the completed multi-layer build, designed and installed in accordance with AS 4654.2-2012. It is not a finished waterproofing surface and must never be left permanently exposed to UV.

Key applications

  • Roof waterproofing systems, as the base or intermediate layer beneath a cap sheet
  • Podiums and plaza decks beneath protection layers
  • Balconies and terraces beneath tiles, screeds or pavers
  • Retaining walls, positive side, beneath protection and drainage layers
  • Below-ground foundations and structures
  • Lift pits and wet basements
  • Intermediate ply in engineered multi-layer torch-applied build-ups

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (fully cured minimum 28 days, Concrete Surface Profile 3-6, dry and sound, blowholes and defects repaired, primed with FORZAPRIME)
  • Cement render and screed (fully cured, sound and non-friable, dry at the time of priming, primed with FORZAPRIME)
  • Masonry and blockwork (sound, joints struck flush and made good, primed with FORZAPRIME)
  • Metal (rigid, clean, free of oil, oxide and mill scale, all laps and fixings secure, primed before membrane installation)
  • Existing bituminous membranes (only where sound, well adhered and compatible, and only with written FORSPEC approval following a site assessment)
  • Timber and combustible substrates (torch application direct to a combustible substrate is prohibited; a non-combustible overlay board must be installed first)

Not a finished surface. FORZAFLEX BASE 3mm must be overlaid with a cap sheet, protection board, screed or finishing system and must never be left permanently exposed to UV. Classified CLASS I, low extensibility; where the design requires a Class II or Class III membrane for movement accommodation, specify a higher-class FORSPEC membrane or design the movement detail accordingly. Torch application direct to combustible substrates is PROHIBITED; a non-combustible overlay board must be installed first. Torch-applied work is hot work and must not proceed without a hot work permit, a fire watch and the fire safety measures in the TDS. Do not torch onto wet, damp, green or uncured substrates, or onto wet or uncured primer. Do not overheat; excessive heat degrades the bitumen and damages the polyester reinforcement, and the damage is not visible from the surface. Insufficient heat produces a cold bond that looks acceptable and is not adhered. No cold joints, fish-mouths or open seams are permitted at any lap. Do not install in rain, on a wet surface, or in wind conditions that prevent control of the torch flame. Not compatible in direct contact with polystyrene insulation, PVC membranes or plasticised sheet materials without an approved separation layer. Bitumen fume is classified as a suspected carcinogen. Poor surface preparation will result in adhesion failure and voids the warranty. Application must be carried out by trained and experienced waterproofing applicators.
