ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD is a two-component polyaspartic floor coating at 90% solids, applied straight onto prepared concrete. In this kit it is the base coat you broadcast the flake into and the clear lock coat over the top. ACTFLEX EP250 epoxy primer handles damp slabs. The coating is polyaspartic, not epoxy.

ULTRA SHIELD: 6 to 8 m² per litre per coat, two coats for a flake floor. Flake systems use significantly more clear coat than a solid colour, so set flake demand on a trial area. EP250 if needed: 0.44 kg/m² per coat.

How to Use

Apply ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD by roller, brush or spray at 6-8 m2 per litre, broadcasting the flake into the wet base coat before the clear lock coatInspect the floor thoroughly and confirm it is structurally sound, clean and free of damage, checking for cracks, holes and surface imperfections
Remove all contaminants - dust, grease, oil, wax, paint and other residues - using a degreaser where required, followed by a rinse with clean water, and allow to dry fully
Where the surface carries a previous paint or resin coating, remove it completely by sanding, grinding or abrasive blasting
Repair all cracks and spalling with a FORSPEC concrete repair system such as FORBUILD 100 or FORCRETE 100, or the FORSPEC epoxy crack repair range, finished flush and cured
Mechanically prepare the substrate by diamond grinding or shot blasting to an open, sound profile and vacuum thoroughly
Confirm substrate moisture is within the limit stated in the Technical Data; where the limit is exceeded, apply ACTFLEX EP250 as a two-coat moisture-control system
Where EP250 is used, mix it 1:1 Part A to Part B by volume, apply at 0.44 kg/m2 per coat and allow a minimum of 24 hours cure at 25C and 50% RH before overcoating
Vacuum the area immediately before application
Pre-condition both ULTRA SHIELD components before mixing and mix full kits only - never part-mix
Combine the components and mix with a low-speed mechanical mixer to a uniform, streak-free blend, scraping the sides and base of the container, without whipping air into the mix
Mix only the quantity that can be placed within the 30-minute pot life
Apply the ULTRA SHIELD base coat by roller, brush or spray at 6-8 m2 per litre, working to a uniform, continuous film and maintaining a wet edge
Broadcast the flake into the wet base coat to the required density
Allow the base coat to cure, then remove all loose flake by vacuum and scrape
Apply the clear ULTRA SHIELD lock coat, within the 1-4 hour recoat window where a second coat is being applied wet on cured
Where enhanced surface friction is specified, broadcast the anti-slip aggregate into the wet coat and lock it in with a further coat
Protect the finished floor from water, contamination and traffic until hard through
Inspect the finished film for holidays, pinholes, flake shadowing and inconsistent gloss before releasing the area
Allow 48 hours full cure at 25C and 50% RH before vehicle traffic

This kit builds a decorative flake floor from ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD, a two-component elastomeric polyaspartic floor coating at 90% solids applied direct to well-prepared concrete, with ACTFLEX EP250 waterborne epoxy primer for substrates that exceed the stated moisture limit. FLAKE X is broadcast into the wet ULTRA SHIELD base coat and locked in with a clear ULTRA SHIELD coat. The coating is not rated for slip resistance as supplied. No accredited certificate is currently held on file for ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD and all its performance values are published as typical R&D characteristic values. EP250 carries a certified VOC content of 23 g/L.

Two-component products - mix full kits only and observe the 30-minute ULTRA SHIELD pot life; do not part-mix and never re-temper. Do not apply ULTRA SHIELD below 10C or above 30C, and apply EP250 only between 10C and 26C ambient and substrate. Not slip-resistant as supplied - an anti-slip broadcast is required to achieve a designed slip rating. Do not apply over substrates exceeding the stated moisture limit - apply ACTFLEX EP250 as a two-coat moisture-control system where the limit is exceeded. All previous paint and resin coatings must be completely removed before application. Not a structural repair product - cracks and spalling must be reinstated before coating. It bridges hairline cracks only and does not accommodate designed movement joints, which must be carried through the coating. Not a levelling product - the finished surface follows the prepared substrate profile. EP250 is not UV resistant and must be protected from direct ultraviolet exposure. Do not dilute ULTRA SHIELD unless approved in writing by an authorised FORSPEC representative. ULTRA SHIELD Part B is a flammable liquid and vapour classified as dangerous goods, is harmful if inhaled and may cause allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled; both EP250 parts are hazardous chemicals.
