Polyaspartic flake floor for the garage. Hard through in 3.5 hours, drive on it after 48.

ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD is a two-component polyaspartic floor coating at 90% solids, applied straight onto prepared concrete. In this kit it is the base coat you broadcast the flake into and the clear lock coat over the top. ACTFLEX EP250 epoxy primer handles damp slabs. The coating is polyaspartic, not epoxy.

What's in the kit

  • ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD, base coat
  • ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD, clear lock coat
  • FLAKE X decorative flake
  • ACTFLEX EP250 two-component waterborne epoxy primer

Where to use it

  • Garage floors and commercial, industrial and residential flooring
  • High wear and traffic prone areas, food processing floors
  • Decorative flake or solid colour finishes over prepared concrete

Why buy the kit

  • 90% solids, 93 Shore A, 56 Shore D
  • Hard through 3.5 hours, full cure 48 hours. Coat it and hand it back inside a shift
  • High UV stability, resists yellowing
  • Bridges hairline cracks and absorbs minor substrate movement
  • Puncture and abrasion resistance built for vehicle traffic. No joints or laps
  • EP250 goes on as two coats of moisture control where the slab is over the 5% limit
  • 10 year Forspec product warranty on ULTRA SHIELD, supply only

Coverage

ULTRA SHIELD: 6 to 8 m² per litre per coat, two coats for a flake floor. Flake systems use significantly more clear coat than a solid colour, so set flake demand on a trial area. EP250 if needed: 0.44 kg/m² per coat.

Not for

Below 10°C or above 30°C, slabs over the moisture limit without two coats of EP250, old paint or resin (strip it first), levelling or structural repair, or a slip rating as supplied (broadcast anti-slip). Mix full kits only, 30 minute pot life. Part B is a flammable liquid and dangerous goods.

All times at 25°C and 50% RH.

Technical overview

This kit builds a decorative flake floor from ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD, a two-component elastomeric polyaspartic floor coating at 90% solids applied direct to well-prepared concrete, with ACTFLEX EP250 waterborne epoxy primer for substrates that exceed the stated moisture limit. FLAKE X is broadcast into the wet ULTRA SHIELD base coat and locked in with a clear ULTRA SHIELD coat. The coating is not rated for slip resistance as supplied. No accredited certificate is currently held on file for ACTFLEX ULTRA SHIELD and all its performance values are published as typical R&D characteristic values. EP250 carries a certified VOC content of 23 g/L.

Key applications

  • Garage floors and commercial, industrial and residential flooring
  • Decorative flake or solid-colour floor finishes
  • Direct-applied protective and decorative floor coating over prepared concrete
  • High-wear and traffic-prone environments
  • Flooring within food processing plants
  • Areas requiring enhanced surface friction, with the specified anti-slip broadcast

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (structurally sound, clean and free of damage, mechanically prepared by diamond grinding or shot blasting to an open, sound profile and vacuumed)
  • Concrete with all previous paint and resin coatings completely removed
  • Concrete with all cracks and spalling repaired with FORBUILD 100, FORCRETE 100 or the FORSPEC epoxy crack repair range, finished flush and cured
  • Concrete exceeding the stated moisture limit (apply ACTFLEX EP250 as a two-coat moisture-control system first)

Two-component products - mix full kits only and observe the 30-minute ULTRA SHIELD pot life; do not part-mix and never re-temper. Do not apply ULTRA SHIELD below 10C or above 30C, and apply EP250 only between 10C and 26C ambient and substrate. Not slip-resistant as supplied - an anti-slip broadcast is required to achieve a designed slip rating. Do not apply over substrates exceeding the stated moisture limit - apply ACTFLEX EP250 as a two-coat moisture-control system where the limit is exceeded. All previous paint and resin coatings must be completely removed before application. Not a structural repair product - cracks and spalling must be reinstated before coating. It bridges hairline cracks only and does not accommodate designed movement joints, which must be carried through the coating. Not a levelling product - the finished surface follows the prepared substrate profile. EP250 is not UV resistant and must be protected from direct ultraviolet exposure. Do not dilute ULTRA SHIELD unless approved in writing by an authorised FORSPEC representative. ULTRA SHIELD Part B is a flammable liquid and vapour classified as dangerous goods, is harmful if inhaled and may cause allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled; both EP250 parts are hazardous chemicals. Read every Safety Data Sheet before use.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What's in the Garage Flake Flooring Starter Kit?
    Compatibility

The Garage Flake Flooring Kit contains a complete decorative flake floor system: epoxy primer/basecoat, ACTFLEX Crystal Coat (or similar epoxy base), FLAKE X decorative flake, ACTFLEX Ultra Shield polyaspartic topcoat, and application tools (squeegee, mixing paddle, spike shoes).

  • What surface area does it cover?
    Performance

Sized for a standard single-car or double-car garage floor (approx 15-30 m² depending on the kit variant). Refer to the kit description for exact coverage and additional material requirements for larger spaces.

  • Can I apply this myself?
    Installation

Yes - the kit is designed for DIY application by competent applicators willing to follow the system instructions carefully. The biggest pitfalls are surface prep (must be ground/etched) and timing the flake broadcast in the wet epoxy window.

  • What's the prep required for an existing concrete garage?
    Compatibility

Critical prep: grind or acid-etch the concrete to open the surface profile, vacuum thoroughly, fill any cracks with epoxy paste, then prime. Skipping prep is the #1 cause of garage floor failures.

  • How long does it take from start to finish?
    Compliance

Plan 3 days minimum: Day 1 prep and prime, Day 2 epoxy basecoat with flake broadcast, Day 3 topcoat. Light foot traffic in 24 hours, vehicle traffic in 7 days for full cure.
