The speed primer under ACTFLEX 929 SL and 929 HV. Touch dry in 30 minutes, membrane on within hours.

ACTFLEX 700 PU PRIMER is a single-pack, moisture-curing polyurethane primer for porous substrates under Forspec solvent-based membranes. It is the specified primer for ACTFLEX 929 SL and 929 HV, and the bonding agent for recoating old solvent-based PU membranes. One coat, no mixing, straight from the can. 4 L and 17 L.

Where to use it

  • Porous substrates under Forspec solvent-based membranes, including the ACTFLEX moisture-cured PU range
  • Under ACTFLEX 75FC and Forspec solvent-based joint sealants on dry internal surfaces
  • Recoating and tying into existing solvent-based PU liquid membranes
  • New and old concrete, renders, masonry, brickwork and timber
  • Wet-area-grade fibre cement and compressed fibre cement sheet

Why waterproofers buy it

  • Touch dry in as little as 30 minutes, waterproof in 3 hours, full cure in 6 hours
  • One even coat. No multi-coat priming on porous substrates
  • Penetrating film consolidates porous surfaces
  • Translucent matte finish, so you can still see the substrate
  • Brush, roller or approved spray
  • 10 year Forspec product warranty

Coverage

One coat at 4 to 6 m² per litre, 60 micron nominal DFT. 4 L: approx. 16 to 24 m². 17 L: approx. 68 to 102 m². Overcoat once touch dry and within 24 hours, or re-prime.

Not for

Moisture control (it blisters and peels on a damp substrate, use ACTFLEX EP250 or MB200), water-based products, leaving exposed beyond 48 hours after full cure, or application outside 10 to 26°C. Do a staining trial on every substrate. Use an opened can the same day. Flammable liquid and vapour: no ignition sources, ventilate, and never store in pits or basements.

Touch dry at 20°C and 50% RH. Other times at 25°C and 50% RH.

Technical overview

ACTFLEX 700 PU Primer is a single-pack, fast-drying, moisture-curing polyurethane primer formulated to enhance adhesion between porous substrates and Forspec solvent-based waterproofing membranes and joint sealants, specifically ACTFLEX 929 SL and ACTFLEX 929 HV. It also functions as a bonding agent for re-coating existing solvent-based polyurethane liquid membranes. Applied as one even coat at a nominal 60 micron dry film thickness. Touch dry in 30 minutes at 20C; full cure in 6 hours at 25C, 50% RH. It is a primer, not a moisture barrier - specify ACTFLEX EP250 or ACTFLEX MB200 where substrate moisture control is required. No Australian Standard prescribes performance requirements for solvent-based polyurethane primers of this type; system compliance is carried by the host membrane or sealant applied over it. No accredited test reports exist for this product and all performance values are published as typical Forspec R&D characteristic values.

Key applications

  • Priming porous substrates beneath Forspec solvent-based waterproofing membranes
  • Priming beneath ACTFLEX 75FC and Forspec solvent-based joint sealants on dry internal surfaces
  • Bonding agent for re-coating and tying into existing solvent-based polyurethane liquid membranes
  • Consolidating primer for new and old concrete, renders, masonry, brickwork and timber
  • Priming wet-area-grade fibre cement and compressed fibre cement sheeting

Surface suitability

  • New and old concrete
  • Render
  • Masonry
  • Brickwork
  • Timber
  • Wet-area-grade fibre cement and compressed fibre cement sheeting (per the host system TDS)
  • Existing solvent-based polyurethane liquid membranes (sound, well-bonded, clean and dry, glossy surfaces abraded)

NOT a moisture or vapour barrier - substrate moisture causes the primer to blister and peel; specify ACTFLEX EP250 or ACTFLEX MB200 where moisture control is required. Never use under or with water-based products. Not UV stable - never leave the primed surface exposed beyond 48 hours after full cure. Staining may occur on some substrates - complete a sample trial area on every substrate first. Opened containers must be used the same day. Apply only between 10-26C ambient and substrate, never below 10C surface temperature. Flammable liquid and vapour - exclude all ignition sources during application and cure, ventilation mandatory, and never store in pits, depressions, basements or anywhere vapours can trap.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What is ACTFLEX 700 PU Primer for?
    Compatibility

700 PU Primer is a high-build moisture-curing polyurethane primer specifically for solvent-based PU membranes and joint sealants. Used over new/old concrete, render, masonry, timber, bricks, CFC sheeting, and Villaboard.

  • Why specifically for solvent-based PU?
    Performance

The 700 PU Primer chemistry is matched to solvent-based PU membranes (929 HV/SL series). It reactivates existing PU membrane surfaces, allowing fresh PU to bond to aged cured PU - critical for repair and overlay work.

  • Coverage and cure?
    Installation

Coverage is 4-6 m² per litre. Touch-dry in 30 minutes at 20°C, waterproof in 3 hours at 25°C, full cure in 6 hours. Single-component, no mixing required.

  • Is it elastomeric?
    Compatibility

No - 700 PU Primer is non-elastomeric. It provides bond chemistry only. The flexibility comes from the PU membrane layer applied on top. Not for continuous UV exposure - must be overcoated.

  • Shelf life and same-day use?
    Performance

Same-day use is possible after opening (moisture-reactive chemistry means once exposed, the can starts curing). Plan to use the full pail within the same project day, or seal carefully for short-term storage.
