How to Use

Extrude into the prepared joint over a backer rod or bond breaker tape with a sausage gun and tool the sealant immediately after applicationMechanically prepare all surfaces and vacuum clean as necessary so they are free of dust, grease, release agents, existing sealant, loose debris and any other contaminants
Size the joint between 5mm and 30mm wide with a minimum joint depth of 5mm
Maintain a width to depth ratio of 2:1 for joint widths greater than 10mm
Install appropriate backer rod or self-adhesive bond breaker tape to avoid three sided adhesion and to control joint depth
Mask along the joint edges with tape to create a clean finish
Extrude the sealant into the prepared joint, ensuring complete adhesion to the joint sides and avoiding air entrapment
Use a 15mm x 15mm bead at all change of directions and junctions for external applications in accordance with AS4654
Where bond breaking is required, place a bond breaker tape centrally over the sealant before the membrane or coating is applied
Tool the sealant immediately after application
Remove the masking tape within the sealant skinning timeframe
Wash all equipment immediately on completion
Allow approximately 10 minutes at 23C and 50% RH for skin formation, and 2mm to 3mm of cure per 24 hours
Overcoat with approved ARDEX liquid applied membranes or protective coatings, which may be applied immediately after the sealant
Do not apply ARDEX WPM 270 primer directly onto the sealant

Technical overview

ARDEX RA 050 is a one-component, moisture curing hybrid polymer sealant for internal and external use, with excellent UV resistance, elasticity and paintability. It can be applied to both damp and green surfaces and gives primerless adhesion to most common substrates, and it contains no solvents, halogens, isocyanates, acids or toxic components. It is fully compatible with approved ARDEX liquid applied membranes and protective coatings and may be overcoated immediately after application. For external applications a 15mm x 15mm bead must be used at all change of directions and junctions in accordance with AS4654. Elastic recovery, tension, modulus and elongation are quoted against ISO 7389 and ISO 37 as nominal values, with no accredited test report number published.

Contact with bitumen, tar or plasticizer releasing materials must be avoided as this will cause sealant discolouration and loss of adhesion. Do not apply primer ARDEX WPM 270 directly onto ARDEX RA 050 as this may negatively impact its performance. Not suitable in aquariums, chlorinated environments, within continuous water immersion, or within waste water environments. Discolouration due to extreme prolonged temperatures or UV radiation may occur; the change in colour will not affect the performance properties of the sealant. ARDEX RA 050 is not designed as a bond-breaker sealant, so where bond breaking is required place a bond breaker tape centrally over the sealant before the approved ARDEX liquid membrane or protective coating is applied. Apply only between 5C and 35C. Do not bond the sealant directly to the bottom of the prepared joint. Causes eye irritation. Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Wear protective gloves, clothing, eye and face protection and ensure adequate ventilation during mixing and application.
