Ardex RA56 Hybrid Polyurethane Adhesive
Crack and spall repair that is open to traffic in 1 hour. Ultra low viscosity, so it runs deep into hairline cracks.
ARDEX RA 56 is an ultra-low viscosity, two component hybrid polyurethane for structural crack and spall repair in concrete. The 60 centipoise mix runs deep into hairline cracks for a structural repair. Add dry aggregate for spalls. Grind it and reopen to traffic in 1 hour.
Where to use it
- Hairline cracks in horizontal concrete slabs, injected straight from the mixing nozzle
- Spall repairs from 12mm to 75mm deep, mixed with dry bagged aggregate or clean medium-grade sand
- Dry concrete only. New concrete must be at least 28 days old
Why waterproofers buy it
- Ready for grinding and open to traffic in 1 hour
- Ultra low viscosity for deep penetration into cracks
- Gel time 2 to 3 minutes, tack free in 12 to 20 minutes at 24°C
- 33.8 MPa compressive strength at 1 hour, 36.5 MPa at 24 hours
- Stretch it: up to 3 parts aggregate to 1 part mixed product from the cartridge
- 254 mL cartridge or 7.5 L bulk kit
Coverage
ARDEX publishes no coverage rate. Coverage varies with the depth of the fill, so take off by the volume of the void.
Not for
Damp or wet concrete (substrate and environment must be completely dry), thinning with solvents, or mixing more than you can place in 5 minutes. It is a structural repair with 5% elongation, not a flexible sealant. Works from -18°C to 46°C.
Times at 24°C.

Technical overview
Key applications
- Structural repair of hairline cracks in concrete
- Crack repair in horizontal concrete slabs by injecting directly into the crack
- Spall repair when mixed with dry bagged aggregate
- Concrete repair where minimal down time is crucial
- Repairs from a minimum of 12mm to a maximum of 75mm
- Repairs to be ground smooth or reopened to traffic within the hour
Surface suitability
- Old concrete (clean, completely dry with no presence of moisture, profiled or textured)
- New concrete (minimum 28 days old)
- Smooth surfaces (mechanically roughened with a wire brush or sand paper before application)
- Cracks and spalls that are dry and clean, free of grease, wax, oil and loose concrete
ARDEX RA 56 is a moisture sensitive product and the substrate must be DRY prior to use; substrate and environment must be completely dry without any presence of moisture, although the cured product can be exposed to moisture. Do not thin with solvents, as this will prevent cure. Do not reuse mixing nozzles or force adhesive out of a hardened nozzle. Colour changes during cure from black to light grey, and in exterior applications the product may develop a greenish tint after cure due to UV exposure. Substrate and ambient air temperature must be between -18C and 46C, and product must be conditioned to 21C - 24C when the work environment falls below 21C. Where a levelling compound is to be laid over the repair, clean dry sand must be broadcast into the wet surface or mixed into the product. This product is considered hazardous: harmful by inhalation, irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin, and may cause SENSITISATION by inhalation and skin contact. Part A carries Poisons Schedule S6. Wear suitable gloves, eye and face protection and use only in well ventilated areas.

Frequently asked questions
-
What does RA56 bond to?
CompatibilityRA56 is a high-strength hybrid polyurethane adhesive that bonds to concrete, masonry, metal, timber, fibre-cement, ceramic, and most building substrates. It bonds to wet, dry, or green surfaces.
-
Is RA56 paintable?
PerformanceYes. RA56 is fully paintable with both water-based and solvent-based paints once fully cured (24-48 hours).
-
Does RA56 need a primer?
InstallationNo primer is required on most porous and non-porous substrates. RA56's hybrid polyurethane formulation delivers excellent direct adhesion.
-
What movement can RA56 accommodate?
PerformanceRA56 remains permanently elastic and accommodates up to plus or minus 25% joint movement, making it ideal for expansion joints and substrates subject to thermal movement.
-
Is RA56 suitable for potable water?
ComplianceYes. RA56 is isocyanate-free and approved for use in contact with potable water, making it suitable for drinking water tanks and food-contact applications.
