Drizoro MaxRest Passive
The Drizoro Maxrest Passive is a ready-to-use liquid rust converter and protective coating designed for steel and iron surfaces. It effectively neutralises corrosion and transforms rust into a stable passive layer, protecting metal from further damage.
Ideal for use on reinforcing bars and exposed steel, this product provides long-term protection against corrosion, salts, acids, and alkaline attack.

Technical overview
Key applications
- Oxide converter and protection of steel reinforcement in structural concrete repair
- Structures exposed to aggressive conditions such as coastal areas and industrial environments
- Anti-corrosion protection against attack from strong chemical agents such as diluted alkali and acid solutions
- Adhesion promoter or priming on metal surfaces for subsequent coating systems
- Iron and steel surfaces requiring protection against corrosion, salts, acid and alkali attack
Surface suitability
- Steel reinforcement (loose and unsound concrete removed all round, rust removed to St-2 grade, washed with clean water and a damp cloth)
- Iron and steel surfaces (clean and free of paints, coatings, efflorescence, loose particles, grease, oils, curing agents, form release agents, dust, gypsum plasters and organic growth)
- Sandblasted white metal steel (product reacts even on white metal or only partially rusted surfaces)
Do not apply in rain, or when rain, contact with water, condensation, dampness or dew is expected within the first 24 hours after application. Do not apply where the substrate or ambient temperature is at or below 5C, or when temperatures are expected to fall below 5C within 24 hours, and never on frozen or frost-covered surfaces. Above 35C, in low relative humidity or in windy conditions, avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Do not add water, cements, solvents, additives, aggregates or other compounds. Do not mix for a prolonged period or with a high-speed mixer, which may introduce air bubbles. Avoid staining the concrete around the reinforcement. Observe the recommended consumption per coat. Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes and use rubber gloves and safety goggles when handling and applying the product.

Frequently asked questions
-
What is MaxRest Passive used for?
CompatibilityMaxRest Passive is a single-component water-based rust converter and corrosion-protection primer for steel reinforcement, rebar, and metal surfaces - applied before patching with MaxRest or MaxRite 700 repair mortars.
-
How does the chemistry work?
PerformanceMaxRest Passive converts active rust into a stable passive layer and forms a protective coating that prevents future corrosion. The water-based formula is non-toxic, low-odour, and easy to apply on site.
-
How is it applied?
InstallationClean the steel surface (abrasive blast or wire brush to bare metal). Stir the product, then apply two coats by brush or spray. Wait 2-3 hours between coats. Each coat at approximately 0.15 kg/m², total system 0.30 kg/m².
-
Which repair mortars pair with it?
CompatibilityMaxRest Passive is the recommended rebar primer for the Drizoro repair mortar system - MaxRest, MaxRite 700, Max Grout, and Maxgrip anchoring grout. Apply Passive first, then patch with the matched mortar.
-
Standards?
ComplianceSupports EN 1504-7 rebar protection systems when used with EN 1504-3 R4 repair mortars (MaxRest, MaxRite 700). The combined system delivers principles 7-RP/7.1 and 7-RP/7.2.
Why trade professionals choose Drizoro
Drizoro is a Spanish manufacturer of cement based waterproofing and concrete repair products, supplied to the Australian trade through The Waterproofing Shop. The range on this site covers Maxseal Foundation and Maxseal Flex, along with repair mortars, grouts, joint products and mesh, used on concrete and masonry where water has to be held back rather than simply shed. Choosing between the rigid and the flexible grade is the key decision, and it comes down to the substrate, the direction of the water and how much movement the structure is likely to see.
