The FORZAFLEX torch-on primer. One coat, dry in about an hour on smooth concrete, so the membrane goes down the same day.

FORZAPRIME is a solvent-based bitumen primer that bonds torch-applied membranes to concrete, masonry and metal. It soaks into porous substrates, binds surface dust and fines, and leaves a uniform bitumen key for FORZAFLEX BASE 3mm, MINERALE 4.5 and RR to weld to. Brush, roller or low-pressure spray.

Where to use it

  • Under FORZAFLEX BASE 3mm, FORZAFLEX MINERALE 4.5 and FORZAFLEX RR
  • Roof slabs and decks, podium slabs and balconies
  • Retaining walls, foundations, lift pits and below-ground structures
  • Metal substrates before membrane installation

Why waterproofers buy it

  • The specified primer for the FORZAFLEX torch-on system
  • Dries on smooth surfaces in about 1 hour, so the membrane can follow the same day
  • One coat at 4 to 6 m² per litre
  • 12 months shelf life unopened
  • 10 year Forspec product warranty

Coverage

0.15 to 0.25 L/m² depending on porosity, or 4 to 6 m² per litre, one coat. A 20 L pack covers about 80 to 120 m². Porous, textured decks use a lot more.

Not for

Waterproofing on its own, moisture barrier duty or hydrostatic pressure. Do not torch until it is fully dry: wet primer ignites. Never speed drying with heat or a torch. Not over uncured concrete, damp surfaces, dust, laitance, oil or curing compounds. Do not let it pond or dilute it without written Forspec approval. Apply between 5 and 35°C.

Drying time at 25°C and 50% RH.

Technical overview

FORZAPRIME is a solvent-based bituminous primer manufactured from modified bitumen, fast-evaporating solvents and adhesion-enhancing additives. It establishes the bond between the substrate and torch-applied bituminous waterproofing membranes, sealing porous surfaces and binding dust and fines into a stable bituminous key across concrete, masonry and metal. It is the specified primer of the FORZAFLEX torch-on system and is compatible with FORZAFLEX BASE 3mm, FORZAFLEX MINERALE 4.5 and FORZAFLEX RR. AS 4654.1 does not apply to the primer itself, which is a system component and not a membrane. No accredited certificate is currently held on file for FORZAPRIME and all performance values are published as typical R&D characteristic values. System compliance is established by the certified FORZAFLEX membrane installed over the primer.

Key applications

  • Priming ahead of FORZAFLEX BASE 3mm, FORZAFLEX MINERALE 4.5 and FORZAFLEX RR torch-applied membranes
  • Roof slabs and decks
  • Podium slabs and balconies
  • Retaining walls and foundations
  • Lift pits and below-ground structures
  • Metal substrates prior to membrane installation
  • Sealing porous substrates and binding surface dust and fines before membrane installation

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (fully cured before priming, clean, dry and structurally sound)
  • Masonry
  • Metal (primed prior to membrane installation)
  • Porous substrates (sealed and dust bound before membrane installation)

Not a waterproofing membrane - FORZAPRIME primes, it does not waterproof, and it is not a moisture barrier and not suitable for hydrostatic pressure. FORZAPRIME must be FULLY DRY before torch application of any membrane, because torching over wet primer ignites residual solvent. Do not accelerate drying using heat or a torch under any circumstances. Concrete must be fully cured before priming and moisture must not be present on the surface at the time of application. Do not apply over dust, laitance, oils, curing compounds, grease or loose material without full mechanical rectification. Avoid ponding and excessive build-up, as pooled primer will not dry through and will remain a solvent reservoir beneath the membrane. Do not dilute unless approved in writing by an authorised FORSPEC representative. Apply between +5C and +35C. Protect adjacent surfaces from overspray and splashing, as cured bituminous primer is very difficult to remove. The uncured product and its vapours are combustible, so exclude all ignition sources until fully dry. Classified as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL and DANGEROUS GOODS, Poisons Schedule S5.
