Applications and Uses

Gripset E60 is a professional-grade epoxy primer and moisture barrier designed for damp concrete, green concrete, screeds, masonry and other mineral substrates. It is widely used before applying waterproofing membranes, tile adhesives, levelling compounds, coatings and flooring systems.

Suitable for residential, commercial and industrial projects, Gripset E60 helps reduce moisture transmission through concrete and provides a compatible bonding surface for subsequent waterproofing and flooring applications.

Common applications include basement waterproofing, retaining walls, balconies, wet areas, concrete slabs, lift pits and areas affected by rising damp or hydrostatic pressure.

How to Use

Mix equal parts A and B by volume for approx 3 minutes, stand 5 minutes, then apply by squeegee, stiff nylon broom or medium to long nap roller at 1litre/10m2 as a primer or 1litre/3m2 per coat as a vapour or moisture barrier.Confirm all surfaces are clean, sound, smooth, dry and free from loose material, dirt, dust, oil, grease, wax residues, laitance, curing compounds, release agents, existing coatings, moss, algae and sharp protruding objects
Mechanically remove structurally unsound layers and surface contaminants by grinding, abrasive blasting or equivalent methods
Point masonry surfaces flush and fill and level all voids, holes, pitted sections, heavy undulations and non-structural cracks
Allow concrete to cure at least 28 days and cement render or sand cement screeds at least 7 days
Where sealing against negative hydrostatic pressure and rising damp, treat any running water with Gripset C-Plug first
Lightly stir parts A and B to ensure a homogenous consistency before mixing
Measuring by volume, add equal parts of Part A and Part B into a clean mixing pail
Mix the two components with an electric stirrer and paddle attachment at low to medium speed for approximately 3 minutes until homogenous
Allow the product to settle for 5 minutes after mixing before use
Where surface porosity requires it, dilute the first coat with water, 5% on porous surfaces and 10% on non porous or dense surfaces
Lightly dampen dry or highly porous surfaces including aged concrete or screeds with a fine water mist
Apply over floor surfaces with a squeegee, stiff nylon broom or medium to long nap roller, working the E60 in so all pinholes and voids are filled
Use a medium to long nap roller over vertical wall surfaces
Use a wet film gauge to regulate correct coverage of each coat
Check the dry film for pinholes and recoat as required
Recoat after 4 hours where a second coat is specified
Where tiling or applying cement based toppings, apply 2 coats at 1litre/3m2 per coat and sand seed the second coat with fine dry sand at 750g/m2 to a minimum 90% coverage
Sweep or vacuum excess sand from the surface once the coating is dried
Apply all overlaid finishes within 72 hours of the dried film, or lightly sand with 240grit sandpaper to promote adhesion

Technical overview

Gripset E60 is a two component water based epoxy compound used as both a primer and a protective coating to prevent moisture penetration and rising damp through mineral surfaces. It can be applied to damp and green concrete, withstands up to 25 metres or 250Kpa of hydrostatic pressure, and once dried provides a suitable surface for applying coatings, adhesives and floor finishes over. It complies with AS 4020 for potable water storage. Water vapour transmission is quoted against the ASTM E96 desiccant method, but the data sheet cites no accredited test report number and no Australian Standard for the coating itself, so all performance figures are published as manufacturer test data.

Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are above 35C or below 10C. Cure rates will be dramatically reduced when applied in conditions below 10C or when the relative humidity exceeds 80%. Do not apply when raining or when rain is imminent. Only mix the required amount of product that can be used within the 1-2 hour pot life. Do not apply E60 to surfaces where standing water is present. When sealing surfaces against negative hydrostatic pressure and rising damp, any running water must be first treated with Gripset C-Plug. Not to be used as a trafficable coating. Not to be used as a finished coating subject to permanent UV exposure. When using for potable water storage applications, wash down the cured E60 surface with clean water and dispel before filling. Both parts are hazardous according to the criteria of Safe Work Australia GHS 7. Part A causes skin irritation, serious eye irritation and may cause an allergic skin reaction, and is toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Part B causes skin irritation, causes serious eye damage and may cause an allergic skin reaction. Wear rubber boots, overalls, gloves, chemical goggles and a respirator.
