How is Hydrotite installed?

Peel the release film and press the strip onto a clean, dry construction joint surface. On rough or uneven concrete, bed it with Leakmaster LV-Z gun-grade waterstop. Lengths are simply butt-joined.

Will Hydrotite expand prematurely if the joint gets wet during construction?

How to Use

Peel the backing paper off a section at a time and press the strip firmly onto clean dry concrete; bed it into Leakmaster gun grade waterstop on rough surfaces.Prepare a clean, dry, smooth surface, not scabbled, free from oils, grease, dust and debris, similar to a wood float or off-form finish
Repair air holes 4-5mm in diameter or depth with a suitable repair mortar
Set the waterstop out so a minimum of 100mm cover of concrete is present over the strip
Cut the ends square with a sharp knife or scissors so every join is a neat, firm butt join
Lay the strip along the clean dry concrete next to where it is to be installed
Peel the protective backing paper off a section at a time, turn the strip over and press firmly down so it is fully bonded to the concrete
On rough surfaces, gun Leakmaster onto the clean dry surface to build the rough concrete up to a smooth surface and fill the imperfections
Press the strip down into the Leakmaster with moderate hand pressure until the Leakmaster oozes out and there are no visible gaps
On vertical applications use concrete nails in conjunction with the Leakmaster, taking care not to cause cracking in the concrete
Butt join all lengths firmly end to end and place a bead of Leakmaster across every join
Cut and butt join at every 90 degree angle rather than pulling the strip around the corner
Leave a 100mm tail to allow butt joining to the next pour
Protect the installed strip from moisture and ponding water and check for pre-expansion, dark blue turning light blue, before pouring
Do not place concrete until the Leakmaster has cured sufficiently to avoid displacement during the pour
Place and fully compact the second pour so the waterstop is fully encapsulated

Technical overview

Hydrotite is a hydrophilic waterstop manufactured by C.I. Takiron Corp. and distributed in Australia by Parchem. It expands in a controlled manner in the presence of moisture to create a pressure seal within construction joints in concrete structures, increasing in volume up to 500% and sealing heads of water up to 50 metres. A delay coating limits premature expansion before the second pour, and the co-extruded blue hydrophilic and black chloroprene sections direct the expansion across the joint. Hydrotite holds an accredited AWQC report (308541) confirming compliance with AS/NZS 4020:2018 for contact with drinking water. It is designed for in-situ concrete only, is not suitable for masonry or blockwork, and is generally not suitable for expansion joints.

Designed for use in in-situ concrete only and not suitable for masonry or blockwork construction. Not recommended for use in suspended slabs or expansion joints, and not for use where excessive shrinkage or movement may occur. A minimum of 100mm cover of concrete is required over the waterstop, based on concrete strength of 22.5N/mm2. Expansion rate can vary in salt or contaminated water. Protect from moisture or ponding of water prior to placement of concrete to avoid pre-expansion; if it has already expanded too much, remove the strip and replace it with new material. Nailing is not recommended unless used with adhesive. Store in a cool, dark, dry space and do not expose to water or sunlight.
