Technical overview
Key applications
- Movement and construction joints in concrete cast in-situ
- Reservoirs, water towers and sewage tanks
- Dams, culverts, canals and spillways
- Swimming pools
- Bunded areas surrounding liquid retaining tanks
- Basements and underground car parks
- Tunnels and subways
- Abutments and retaining walls
- Roof decks and podium areas
Surface suitability
- Cast in-situ concrete movement and construction joints
- Walls 250mm thick and over (250mm waterstop width)
- Water retaining structures - reservoirs, water towers and sewage tanks
- Water excluding structures - basements and underground car parks
Supercast Hydrofoil is a centrally placed waterstop: it must sit within the thickness of the concrete and be supported by concrete on both sides. The 250mm width suits wall thicknesses of 250mm and over; for concrete less than 250mm thick use a narrower waterstop approximating to the wall thickness. Waterstops must be installed so they are securely held in correct position while concrete is being placed, and the concrete must be fully compacted around them to ensure no voids or porous areas remain. Where reinforcement is present leave adequate clearance to permit proper compaction. Do not bend tighter than the minimum practical placement radius of 15 m on flat or 0.15 m on edge or distortion is likely, and note ambient temperature may affect these dimensions. Site joints must be heat welded with the correct jig and a 240v blade. Ensure heater blades are earthed by the green/yellow wire and that the wiring operation is carried out by a competent electrician. Hot blade, do not immerse blade in water or liquids.

Frequently asked questions
-
Where is Supercast Hydrofoil PVC waterstop used?
ApplicationIt seals expansion and construction joints in cast in-situ concrete on water-retaining and water-excluding structures such as tanks, basements, retaining walls and below-ground slabs.
-
How is the 250 mm waterstop installed?
ApplicationThe waterstop is cast into the joint with one half embedded in the first pour and the second half captured by the next pour. The eyeletted flanges allow positive fixing to formwork or reinforcement before concreting.
-
How much does one roll cover?
Coverage & CoatsEach roll is 12 m long. Allow a small overlap and order moulded intersection pieces (Tees, 3- and 4-way, MOEs, MOFs) for changes of direction rather than site-fabricating them.
-
Is Supercast suitable for drinking water structures?
CompatibilityYes. The system complies with AS 4020:2018 for products in contact with drinking water, so it can be specified in potable water tanks and reservoirs.
-
How are lengths joined on site?
ApplicationLengths are heat-welded on site using a hot knife or jointing iron, following the Fosroc Supercast jointing instructions. Pre-fabricated intersection pieces remove the need to weld complex shapes in the field.
