Bonding:

Soudal T-Rex Power has an excellent adhesion on almost all substrates. Soudal T-Rex Power has been tested on the following metal surfaces: steel, AlMgSi1, brass, electrolytic galvanised steel, AlCuMg1, flame galvanised steel, AlMg3 and steel ST1403. Plastics that were tested include: polystyrene, polycarbonate (Makrolon®), PVC, polyamide, glass fibre reinforced epoxy and polyester (GRP).

Due to the fact that specific substrates such as plastics, like polycarbonate, etc, may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, we recommend preliminary compatibility test.

How to Use

Apply with a high thrust-ratio caulking gun and smoothen the joint with a spatula and finishing solution before skinning, keeping the bond thickness at least 2 mmCheck the substrate is rigid, clean, free of dust and grease, dry or slightly moist
Remove releasing agents, processing aids and protective agents such as protection foil from plastics prior to bonding
Prepare non-porous surfaces with a Soudal Surface Activator or cleaner for critical applications
Prime porous surfaces with Soudal Primer 150
Run a preliminary adhesion test on every surface
Set sealing joints between 5mm and 30mm wide and 5mm and 15mm deep, at the recommended ratio of half width equals depth
Keep the bond thickness at least 2 mm for the elastic properties to come to full justice
Apply the product with a high thrust-ratio caulking gun
Smoothen the joint with a spatula with the help of finishing solution
Avoid soapy solution coming between the joint edges and sealant, to prevent adhesion loss
Clean tools and uncured product with Soudal Surface Cleaner or Soudal Swipex immediately after use
Allow skin formation of about 5 minutes and cure at about 3 mm per 24h at 23C and 50% RH
Where a different reactive joint sealant follows, let the first sealant harden completely before applying the next

Technical overview

T-Rex Power Fast Grab is a one-component, moisture-curing SMX Hybrid Polymer adhesive sealant with a 1 second immediate grab, used for sealing and bonding in the building and construction industry. Soudal publish an end strength of 320 tonnes per m2 and it even adheres to damp surfaces, so panels, profiles and fixings can be placed with a reduced need for initial support. It is impervious to mold, remains elastic after curing, and does not contain isocyanates or silicones. It holds Australian WaterMark licence WM-023300 under WMTS-014:2016 and complies with USGBC LEED 2009 Credit 4.1 and SCAQMD rule 1168 for VOC content. All published performance figures are Soudal values quoted against ISO test methods; the TDS cites no accredited third-party test report for them.

T-Rex Power Fast Grab cannot be used as a glazing sealant. It can be used for bonding of natural stone but cannot be used as a joint sealant on that surface, so only on the bottom of natural stone tiles. Not suitable for bonding aquariums. Do not use in applications where continuous water immersion is possible. Not suitable for PE, PP, PTFE, bituminous substrates, copper or copper-containing materials such as bronze and brass. Bonding plastics like PMMA or polycarbonate in stress loaded applications can give rise to stress cracking and crazing and is not recommended. Application temperature is 5C to 35C. The optimal bond thickness is at least 2 mm for the elastic properties to come to full justice. A total absence of UV can cause a colour change, and discolouration due to chemicals, high temperatures or UV radiation may occur without affecting the technical properties. Avoid contact with bitumen, tar or other plasticizer releasing materials such as EPDM, neoprene and butyl, which can give rise to discolouration and loss of adhesion. Run a preliminary adhesion test on every surface.
