Omega

It is a treatment that reacts with existing rust and converts it to a stable surface, rather than simply painting over the corrosion. Omega describes it as providing a suitable base for subsequent priming and painting, so treat it as a preparation step and not a finished coating. Plan on overcoating it as part of a system.

Rust converters suit steel that carries surface rust but is still structurally sound. They are not a fix for metal that has rusted through, delaminated or lost section, where the answer is repair or replacement. They are also not the right choice for clean bare steel, which is better served by a metal primer, or for surfaces still holding loose scale, oil or flaking paint that need mechanical preparation first.

The converted surface is meant to be overcoated rather than left exposed. Allow it to fully react and dry before anything goes on top, and confirm that your chosen primer or topcoat is compatible, because not every finish sits happily over a converted rust layer. They do different jobs. The Rust Converter is a treatment for steel that already carries rust, stabilising the corrosion so it can be coated. Metal Primer Rust Block is a priming coat for prepared metal, laying down the anti-corrosive base your topcoat bonds to. On a rusted substrate you would generally treat first and prime second; on clean, prepared steel the primer is your starting point.

PoolKote is a two pack epoxy pool paint, supplied as a base and a hardener that are mixed on site before application. Two pack epoxies are used in pools because they cure to a hard, chemically resistant film that copes with constant immersion and pool chemistry far better than a single pack coating. It is a finish coat for the pool shell, not a waterproofing membrane in its own right.

Epoxy pool coatings live or die on preparation. The shell needs to be drained, clean, sound and free of chalking, oils and loose material, with cracks and spalling made good before you start. Identifying what is already on the pool matters just as much, because epoxy applied over an unknown or incompatible existing coating is a common cause of failure.
