ARDEX RA 88 PLUS is a two-component, high-performance ceramic blend epoxy.

It is a versatile repair adhesive suitable for horizontal, vertical, and overhead applications (trowelable).

The adhesive has a no-drip, non-sag formula, making it easy to apply and work with.

With a fast cure time of approximately 2 hours, it allows for quick repairs and minimizes downtime.

Once cured, ARDEX RA 88 PLUS is over twice as strong as standard concrete, ensuring durable and long-lasting results.

It is compatible with various materials, including metal, concrete, brick, wood, stone, block, and other substrates, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of repair projects.

The adhesive can effectively repair holes, spalls, and cracks in concrete and rotted wood.

How to Use

Dispense through the mixing nozzle from a heavy duty caulking gun until a consistent grey colour with no streaks is obtained, fill slightly above the finished surface level and trowel flushConfirm new concrete is a minimum of 28 days old and that old or new concrete is clean, profiled or textured
Mechanically remove all dirt, dust, curing compounds, oils, grease, surface sealers and other contaminants, vacuum cleaning as necessary
Roughen the surface by rough-grinding, scarifying, bush hammering or equivalent - a roughened surface is imperative for good adhesion
Mechanically roughen smooth bonding surfaces with a wire brush or sand paper
For spall repairs, grind the area to at least 13mm and no greater than 16mm deep and a maximum of 76mm wide
Cut around the spall into sound concrete with a diamond or concrete abrasive blade so the depth is consistent and no feathered edge is left
Unscrew the plastic cap and remove the plug
Place the cartridge into an ARDEX Heavy Duty Caulking Gun for the 254ml size or an ARDEX Heavy Duty Dual-Cartridge Caulking Gun for the 627ml size
Dispense a small amount into a disposable container until both materials flow evenly from the cartridge
Attach the mixing nozzle and dispense until a consistent grey colour with no streaks is obtained
Apply at a substrate and ambient air temperature between 5C and 35C, conditioning the product to 21C - 24C if below 21C
Fill the area slightly above the finished surface level and then trowel flush
For crack injection, place and secure ARDEX Injection Ports approximately 15cm to 30cm apart without leaving pin-holes or blocking the passage to the crack face
Seal the full crack face between ports, and seal the underside of the concrete first where the crack is accessible from below
Allow the product to cure before injecting the crack with an ARDEX Crack Injection product
Allow approximately 3 hours cure at 24C before grinding, overcoating or opening to full traffic
Allow the product to cure totally before performing any required flood testing
Clean tools and equipment with mild solvent before the epoxy hardens

Technical overview

ARDEX RA 88 PLUS is a two component, high performance epoxy bonding and repair adhesive with excellent non-drip and non-sag performance, so it can be trowelled horizontally, vertically and overhead. It is used for ARDEX sheet applied membrane terminations, repairing holes and cracks in concrete, installing anchor bolts and bonding metal, concrete, brick, wood, stone and block. It is generally cured 3 hours after application at 24C, after which it can be ground, overcoated and opened to full traffic. The data sheet states compliance to AS/NZS 4020 for potable drinking water and quotes strength, bond, heat deflection, water absorption and shrinkage figures against ASTM test methods, but publishes no accredited test report or certificate number.

Product may discolour from UV exposure. If overcoating with paint or other architectural coatings, avoid solvent-based coatings, sand before overcoating and trial a small test area first. Do not thin product with solvents as this will prevent product curing. The product is not intended for repairing cracks subject to movement. It is designed for small patch repairs only: a deeper or larger mass repair area will generate excessive heat which can result in swelling, smoking, and possibly cracking. It must be totally cured before any required flood testing. It is heavier than water and is not recommended for vertical crack or spall repair underwater. Apply only where substrate and ambient air temperature are between 5C and 35C. Both components are classified hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods, with Part A on Poisons Schedule S5: harmful if swallowed, causes eye and skin irritation and may cause serious eye damage, may cause an allergic skin reaction, may cause respiratory irritation, suspected of causing cancer, may be corrosive to metals and toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
