Non-sag epoxy repair adhesive for overhead, vertical and floor patching. 87 MPa, cured in about 3 hours.

ARDEX RA 88 PLUS is a two component epoxy bonding and repair adhesive. It does not drip or sag, so it trowels overhead and on walls as easily as on floors. 627ml dual cartridge, grey when mixed.

Where to use it

  • Holes, cracks and spalls in concrete. Grind spalls 13mm to 16mm deep, up to 76mm wide
  • Terminations for selected ARDEX sheet applied membranes: filling the reglet and fixing the over-flashing
  • Sealing the crack face and fixing ARDEX Injection Ports before crack injection
  • Installing anchor bolts
  • Bonding metal, concrete, brick, wood, stone and block

Why waterproofers buy it

  • Excellent non-drip and non-sag. Made for overhead and vertical repairs
  • 87 MPa compressive strength at 7 days (ASTM D695)
  • Bond strength 20.1 MPa at 14 days to hardened concrete (ASTM C882)
  • Generally cured in 3 hours at 24°C. Then grind it, paint it or open it to full traffic
  • ARDEX state it is compliant to AS/NZS 4020 for potable drinking water
  • 627ml cartridge runs from an ARDEX Heavy Duty Dual-Cartridge Caulking Gun
  • ARDEX 10 year product guarantee

Not for

Cracks subject to movement, or large or deep mass fills. It is for small patch repairs only, because a big mass builds heat and can swell, smoke and crack. Not for vertical crack or spall repair underwater, thinning with solvents, or temperatures outside 5°C to 35°C. It may discolour in UV. Let it fully cure before any flood test.

Times at 24°C.

Technical overview

ARDEX RA 88 PLUS is a two component, high performance epoxy bonding and repair adhesive with excellent non-drip and non-sag performance, so it can be trowelled horizontally, vertically and overhead. It is used for ARDEX sheet applied membrane terminations, repairing holes and cracks in concrete, installing anchor bolts and bonding metal, concrete, brick, wood, stone and block. It is generally cured 3 hours after application at 24C, after which it can be ground, overcoated and opened to full traffic. The data sheet states compliance to AS/NZS 4020 for potable drinking water and quotes strength, bond, heat deflection, water absorption and shrinkage figures against ASTM test methods, but publishes no accredited test report or certificate number.

Key applications

  • Selected ARDEX sheet applied waterproofing membrane terminations
  • Repairing holes and cracks in concrete
  • Installing anchor bolts
  • Repair adhesive for metal, concrete, brick, wood, stone and block
  • Spall patching ground to at least 13mm and no greater than 16mm deep, maximum 76mm wide
  • Sealing the crack face and securing ARDEX Injection Ports before crack injection
  • Filling the termination reglet over an ARDEX sheet applied membrane, and fixing the over-flashing termination detail
  • Replacing swimming pool tiles underwater

Surface suitability

  • New concrete (minimum 28 days old)
  • Old or new concrete (clean, profiled or textured by rough-grinding, scarifying or bush hammering)
  • Brick
  • Stone
  • Block
  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Swimming pool tiles (adhesive applied to the dry tile, then adhered underwater)
  • Smooth surfaces (mechanically roughened with a wire brush or sand paper before application)

Product may discolour from UV exposure. If overcoating with paint or other architectural coatings, avoid solvent-based coatings, sand before overcoating and trial a small test area first. Do not thin product with solvents as this will prevent product curing. The product is not intended for repairing cracks subject to movement. It is designed for small patch repairs only: a deeper or larger mass repair area will generate excessive heat which can result in swelling, smoking, and possibly cracking. It must be totally cured before any required flood testing. It is heavier than water and is not recommended for vertical crack or spall repair underwater. Apply only where substrate and ambient air temperature are between 5C and 35C. Both components are classified hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods, with Part A on Poisons Schedule S5: harmful if swallowed, causes eye and skin irritation and may cause serious eye damage, may cause an allergic skin reaction, may cause respiratory irritation, suspected of causing cancer, may be corrosive to metals and toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
