Water resistant only, so the undertile waterproofing rules still apply. Apply between 5°C and 40°C.

This versatile product is perfect for sealing movement joints between tiles, internal corners on tiled walls and floors, as well as connecting joints between tiled surfaces and benchtops, bath edges, cupboards, and splashbacks. With its unique formulation, ARDEX SE is particularly well-suited for use with sensitive natural stones. It can also be confidently used in immersed applications, including swimming pools, thanks to its excellent water resistance. Additionally, this silicone contains mold inhibitors, ensuring long-lasting protection against mold and mildew growth.

How to Use

Gun a steady continuous bead into the joint with good contact on both sides, then tool off with a moistened spatula before a skin forms at approximately 10 minutesConfirm joints and surfaces are firm, sound, dry, clean and free from grease, oil, dirt, soap and old paints
Run a trial application on painted surfaces and plastic substrates before starting
Set out the joint at a 2:1 width to depth ratio where possible, minimum 5mm wide and deep internally and 10mm externally, maximum 30mm wide and 15mm deep
Install a backing rod in joints deeper than 10mm
Apply polyethylene tape or a release agent to the base of flat joints so the silicone bonds to two surfaces only
Mask the joint edges with tape to keep silicone off the tile or stone and give a neater finish
Trim the nozzle to the correct bead width and load the cartridge into an applicator gun
Apply at a surface and ambient temperature between 5C and 40C
Gun a steady continuous bead, making good contact with both sides of the joint
Tool off with a moistened spatula before a skin forms, approximately 10 minutes
Clean off any excess while the silicone is still wet
Remove the masking tape while the sealant is still wet
Allow to cure at approximately 2mm per day, 7mm per week
Clean the joint and surrounding surfaces regularly with detergents and disinfectants to support the antifungal agent

Technical overview

ARDEX SE is an acetic cure silicone sealant for tile movement joints and connecting joints, colour matched to popular grout and sanitary ware. It bonds well to glazed surfaces such as ceramic tile and accommodates movement up to 25% of the original joint width, curing to a permanently elastic and dustproof joint seal. It contains fungicides to combat mould growth, is UV resistant for indoor or outdoor use, and meets the Green Building Council of Australia Green Star IEQ-13 requirements. It is water resistant but is not a waterproofing product: the TDS states the rules of undertile waterproofing must still be maintained, and it must not be used in continuous immersion or with waterproofing membranes. No Australian Standard classification is claimed on the data sheet.

Do not use in continuous immersion applications such as swimming pools, or with waterproofing membranes - use ARDEX ST. ARDEX SE is water resistant but the rules of undertile waterproofing must still be maintained. Not suitable for painting over or for load bearing construction. Not suitable for use with bitumen, marble, natural stone, certain metals such as brass and copper, or tar due to discolouration, or with polyethylene, butyl, EPDM, rubber, neoprene and Teflon due to lack of adhesion. Discolouration may occur in contact with bituminous substrates or where iodine developing cleaning agents are used. Trial first on painted surfaces and plastic substrates. Apply only between 5C and 40C. Bond to two surfaces only, using polyethylene tape or a release agent on flat joints to prevent three sided adhesion. Hazardous chemical and dangerous goods: causes skin irritation and serious eye irritation, may cause an allergic skin reaction, may cause drowsiness or dizziness, and is very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
