Technical overview

Maxrest is a one-component, non-shrink, quick-setting structural repair mortar for concrete and masonry, made from special cements, additives and selected aggregates to give a thixotropic mortar that builds 10mm to 30mm per layer on vertical and overhead surfaces without formwork. It is CE marked under EN 1504-3 as a Type CC, Class R4 structural repair mortar and under EN 1504-7 for protection of reinforcement against corrosion, with declared values including 45,5 MPa compressive strength at 28 days and Euroclass A1 reaction to fire. Those are CE declared performance values, not an Australian accredited test certificate, and no NATA or CodeMark certificate is published for this product.

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (structurally sound, firm, free of cement laitance, damaged and loose concrete removed, edges sawcut perpendicular to a minimum depth of 10mm)
  • Concrete with corroded reinforcement (bars exposed and de-rusted, minimum 1cm of MAXREST cover around the bar)
  • Masonry (clean and free of paints, coatings, efflorescence, loose particles, grease, oils, curing agents, dust, gypsum plasters and organic growth, dampened to a matte damp finish)

Do not apply on substrates that are vitrified or enamelled, or treated with water repellent agents. Do not apply on bituminous materials, metals, wood, plasters or paints, and do not apply over weak substrates. Do not apply where substrate or ambient temperature is at or below 5C, or where temperatures are expected to fall below 5C within 24 hours, and do not apply to frozen or frost-covered surfaces. Optimum application temperature is 10C to 30C. Do not add cements, additives, aggregates or other compounds, do not use leftovers from previous mixes, and never add more water to restore workability. Do not mix more material than can be used in 10 minutes. Observe the maximum 30mm thickness per layer. Do not use in contact with very soft water, acid water or carbonic water, and where sulphates are present in groundwater, seawater or wastewater use the MAXREST ANTISULFAT sulphate-resisting version instead. Keep the repair moist for at least 24 hours after application and protect it from extreme heat and direct sunlight. The Safety Data Sheet classifies MAXREST as Danger, H314 causes severe skin burns and eye damage, H317 may cause an allergic skin reaction and H335 may cause respiratory irritation, so wear rubber gloves and safety goggles and do not breathe the dust.
