Technical overview
Key applications
- Reinforcing waterproof coatings
- Reinforcing plaster mortars on facades
- Reinforcing repair mortars on structures
- Overlapping, reinforcement and bridging of cracks, corners and corner fillets
- Construction joints and penetration pipes
- Critical points between different types of substrates
- Waterproof coatings exposed to thermal movements by weather conditions
- Coatings applied over smooth surfaces and non-porous substrates
Do not place the mesh directly on the substrate without any previous coating or mortar. Surface damage and defects deeper than 5mm, such as cavities, chips, cracks and holes, must first be opened to a minimum depth of 2 cm and repaired with a structural repair mortar such as MAXREST. Remove any irregularity that protrudes from the substrate and could trap air under the coating. Joints between walls and slabs or pillars and slabs must be opened to a hole of approximately 30 x 30 mm and repaired with MAXREST, or MAXPLUG if water is present, and finished with a concave corner profile. Corners and edges must be rounded to a radius greater than 30 mm. Strips must overlap by at least 5 cm longitudinally and side by side, and at least 10 cm of each edge of a joint or crack must be covered by the mesh, so check the strip width suits the detail before ordering. Make sure the mesh is completely embedded by the coating or mortar and observe the open time of the material being reinforced before applying the second layer. Store the roll upright in its original unopened packaging, dry and covered, between 5C and 40C, away from heat and direct sunlight.

Frequently asked questions
-
What is the 50mm Mesh used for?
CompatibilityThe 50mm Mesh is a narrow detailing strip of alkali-resistant woven fibreglass - for reinforcing internal/external corners, pipe penetrations, hairline cracks, and tight detail areas where the 200mm Max Mesh is too wide.
-
Why use mesh at corners?
PerformanceCorner junctions are the highest-stress points in a waterproofing system - the substrate movement concentrates at the right-angle bend. The mesh distributes that stress across the membrane to prevent tearing at the apex.
-
How is it embedded?
InstallationApply the first wet coat of cementitious membrane along the corner or detail, lay the 50mm mesh strip into the wet coat, press out air with a pressure roller, then overcoat with the second membrane coat once the first has set.
-
Compatible with which membranes?
CompatibilityEmbeds into all Drizoro cementitious membranes - Maxseal Flex, Flex-M, Maxseal Traffic, Max Flex Express, and Maxseal Foundation. The open-weave construction lets the membrane wet through completely.
-
CE marked?
ComplianceYes. The 50mm Mesh is part of the DRIZORO MESH product line, CE marked. Refer to the linked TDS for the full specification.
Why trade professionals choose Drizoro
Drizoro is a Spanish manufacturer of cement based waterproofing and concrete repair products, supplied to the Australian trade through The Waterproofing Shop. The range on this site covers Maxseal Foundation and Maxseal Flex, along with repair mortars, grouts, joint products and mesh, used on concrete and masonry where water has to be held back rather than simply shed. Choosing between the rigid and the flexible grade is the key decision, and it comes down to the substrate, the direction of the water and how much movement the structure is likely to see.
