ACTFLEX POLYFIN Type P is a scrim-reinforced PVC sheet for roofs, podiums, tanks and below-ground work. It is mechanically fastened and hot-air welded at every lap, so there is no adhesive bond line to fail. Certified Class II to AS 4654.1-2012 in NATA-accredited testing (Report 608-1). 1.5 mm thick, 2 m x 20 m roll.

How to Use

Mechanically fasten and semi-loose lay the sheet, then hot-air weld every side and end lap to a monolithic seam and probe-test itVerify and accept the substrate before work begins; installation indicates full acceptance of the substrate conditions
Confirm concrete is fully cured, dimensionally stable and structurally sound, presenting a Concrete Surface Profile between 2 and 4 per ICRI, with no free water on the surface
Verify falls of a minimum 1% (1:100) draining positively to outlets with no ponding
Remove fins, high points and sharp protrusions, and fill blowholes, honeycombing and surface defects flush
Reinstate spalled and defective concrete with FORBUILD 100 or FORCRETE 100 and allow to cure
Confirm the substrate will develop the pull-out capacity assumed in the wind uplift design, pull-out testing where uncertain
Install separation layers where the membrane will contact bituminous material, polystyrene insulation or any incompatible surface
Carry out a trial weld and adhesion test to confirm fusion parameters before production work commences
Remove all dust and debris from the substrate and every lap zone immediately before laying
Plan the layout, relax the rolls before fixing and lay sheets to run with the fall so laps shed water
Stagger end-laps between adjacent sheets and keep no lap in a valley, gutter sole or ponding zone
Anchor mechanically around the entire perimeter, all edges, terminations, penetrations and projections with FORSPEC Mechanical Fixing Bars or approved corrosion-resistant screw and plate assemblies
Fix in accordance with the wind uplift design, increasing fixing density at perimeters and corners, and do not over-tighten
Fold back each lap, clean both mating faces, then hot-air weld all side-laps and end-laps at the parameters established by the trial weld
Hand weld all corners, terminations, penetrations and any seam the automatic welder cannot reach, consolidating with a silicone roller
Form walls, upstands, corners, collars and cover strips in ACTFLEX POLYFIN TYPE H and weld them to the Type P field sheet
Overweld every fixing bar and plate with a PVC cover strip so no fastener penetration is left exposed
Heat-weld the head of each upstand to a FORSPEC PVC-Coated Termination Strip and mechanically fix the strip to the substrate
Probe every seam along its full length with a blunt seam probe once cool, and cut out and reinstate any defect with a welded patch
Flood test to a minimum depth of 50mm at the highest point for 24 hours after all welding, detailing and probing is complete
Install the specified protection, drainage cell, filter fabric or protection board before any ballast, fill, planting or overlay is placed

Technical overview

ACTFLEX POLYFIN TYPE P is the scrim-reinforced PVC field sheet of the POLYFIN membrane system. It is mechanically fastened, semi-loose laid and hot-air welded at every lap, so the system does not depend on adhesion to the substrate. It is independently certified CLASS II under AS 4654.1-2012 in NATA-accredited testing to ISO/IEC 17025 (Report No. 608-1), and systems are to be designed and installed in accordance with AS 4654.2-2012. Certified abrasion results qualify it for pedestrian and occasional service vehicle traffic. No AS/NZS 4020 certification is held, so potable-water contact requires written confirmation from FORSPEC Technical Services.

Mechanical anchorage is the sole means of restraint, so substrates that cannot develop the required fastener pull-out capacity are not approved and fastener selection, fixing density and pattern must be designed by the project engineer for the wind uplift condition. Not compatible with bituminous products, polystyrene insulation or solvent-based coatings and sealants in direct contact, and a separation layer is mandatory where contact occurs. Certified for pedestrian and occasional service vehicle traffic only; regular vehicle traffic is NOT approved and needs a separate trafficable wearing surface. Substrate falls must be a minimum of 1% (1:100) with positive drainage, ponding is not a design condition. Do not lay over free water, ponded water, green or uncured concrete. Laps must be clean and dry at the moment of welding and every seam must be probe-tested. No AS/NZS 4020 certification is held, so potable-water contact requires written confirmation from FORSPEC Technical Services.
