Technical overview

SOPRASUN PLUS 3 is an APP modified bitumen waterproofing membrane for roofing and below grade applications, reinforced with a non-woven polyester combined with fibreglass. It is fully heat welded with a propane torch or a MINI MACADEN machine, or mechanically fixed when used as an under layer in multi-layer roofing assemblies. The data sheet states compliance with AS 4654.1 and carries Appraisal No.1145 [2021]. Performance figures are published against the test methods named on the data sheet, including ASTM D5147, ASTM C794, EN 1928-B:2000 and AS 4654.1. No accredited test certificate or report number is published with the TDS.

Key applications

  • Rooftops
  • Plaza decks
  • Balconies
  • Planter boxes (in conjunction with SOPRAGUM PLUS GARDEN 4)
  • Retaining Walls
  • Top layer where there is no UV exposure
  • Under layer in multi-layer waterproofing assemblies
  • Vertical and horizontal waterproofing
  • Below grade applications

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (fully cured, Concrete Surface Profile CSP 3 to 6, primed with ANTIROCK PRIMER)
  • Metal (primed with ANTIROCK PRIMER)
  • Base sheet membrane (no primer required when installed as top layer)

Suitable as a top layer only where there is no UV exposure. Ultraviolet resistance and abrasion resistance are listed as NPD and apply only to self-protected membranes. Do not install heat welded membranes directly onto combustible substrate. No work should be started until all surfaces are smooth, dry and free of ice, snow or any other substance that may prevent the membrane from adhering properly. The substrate must have a minimum 1% gradient and concrete must be fully cured with a Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) between 3 and 6 as per International Concrete Repair Institute. An adhesion test is recommended prior to installation, and commencement of installation shall be taken as acceptance of the substrate by the Applicator.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • Can Soprasun Plus 3 be torch-applied?
    Application

Yes — fully heat welded with a propane torch or MINI MACADEN machine. Mechanical fixing is only permitted when used as an under layer in multi-layer systems.

  • What primer is required over concrete or metal?
    Compatibility

Prime with Soprema Antirock Primer at the rate specified in the Antirock TDS before torching down Soprasun Plus 3.

  • How much area does one roll cover?
    Coverage & Coats

Each 1 m × 10 m roll covers 10 m². Allow for side and end lap overlaps in your take-off.

  • Can the membrane be left exposed long-term?
    Cure & Dry Time

Soprasun Plus 3 is suitable as an under layer with no UV exposure, or as a top layer where it is not UV-exposed. For UV exposure use Soprasun Plus 4.5 mineral cap sheet.

  • How should rolls be stored on site?
    Storage

Store rolls upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, cover with an opaque protection sheet once the delivery packaging is removed.

  • What test standards does it meet?
    Performance

Tested to AS 4654.1 and supporting ASTM methods — passes durability, cyclic movement, heat ageing, and watertightness > 200 kPa to EN 1928-B.

Why trade professionals choose Soprema

Soprema is a French waterproofing manufacturer whose torch applied and liquid applied systems are supplied to the Australian trade. The range stocked here covers Soprasun Plus sheet membranes for roof and balcony work, Colphene 3000 for below ground and retaining wall work, Alsan Flashing liquid detailers for junctions and penetrations, and the Elastocol Stick and AntiRock primers that go underneath them. It is a system led range, so most jobs pull a primer, a membrane and a detailing product from the same brand.
