How to Use

Prime with Gripset GP Primer, then apply a minimum of 2 coats of Gripset 38FC by brush or medium nap roller at a total minimum coverage of 1.5 litres/m2, each coat in a different direction to the lastConfirm all surfaces are clean, sound, smooth, dry and free from loose material, dust, oil, grease, wax residues, laitance, curing compounds, release agents, existing coatings, moss, algae and sharp protruding objects
Mechanically remove structurally unsound layers and surface contaminants by grinding or abrasive blasting
Point masonry flush and fill and level all voids, holes, pitted sections, heavy undulations and non-structural cracks
Allow concrete to cure at least 28 days and cement render or sand cement screeds at least 7 days
Apply Gripset GP Primer neat by brush or medium nap roller at a minimum of 1 litre per 8-10m2 per coat and allow 30 minutes to dry at 23C and 50% RH
Unroll the BRW PF Tape, measure and cut the lengths for the joints to be sealed
Gradually remove the release paper and position the tape centrally over each wall and floor junction with the fabric face upwards
Press the tape into place with a spatula, roller or cloth so all air pockets and creases are pushed out
Cut each Elastoproof Collar hole at 75% of the measured pipe diameter, fit the collar over the neck of the pipe and fix it into a wet coat of 38FC membrane
Brush out all creases and air pockets behind the collar fabric edges
Apply the first coat of Gripset 38FC by brush or medium nap roller at 750 microns wet film
Allow 1 hour before recoating
Apply the second coat in a different direction to the first at 750 microns wet film, for a total minimum 1.5 litres/m2 and a minimum 1mm dried film
Use a wet film gauge to regulate the correct coverage of each coat
Allow 4 hours before tiling or toppings, using a polymer modified cement based adhesive
Allow 24 hours for full cure before flood testing

Technical overview

This kit bundles a complete Gripset 38FC wet area system for one bathroom. Gripset 38FC is a water based, fast curing, fibre reinforced SBR latex membrane, classified greater than 300% Class III elongation to AS1145.3, with published PASS results for compliance to AS4858 and AS 4654.1. The kit pairs it with Gripset GP Primer for porous substrates, BRW PF Tape as the wall and floor junction bond breaker and Elastoproof Collars for pipes and penetrations, which are the options the 38FC data sheet itself names for those details. Gripset publishes no data sheet for the kit as a kit, and no accredited test report number or testing authority is cited on any of the component sheets.

Gripset 38FC is not to be used as a trafficable surface and not to be used as a finished membrane exposed to UV. It must be covered over with toppings, tile beds or overlay finishes. Do not apply when rain is imminent, or when surface or ambient temperatures are below 5C or above 30C. Not to be used in areas subject to rising damp or negative hydrostatic pressure; damp substrates and substrates with high residual moisture must be primed with Gripset E60 or Xpress H20 Primer Plus, not the GP Primer supplied in this kit. All finish coatings over the membrane must be water based and solvent free. The BRW PF Tape must not be left as an exposed flashing or exposed joint seal, must not be used over expansion joints, must not be used in negative hydrostatic applications, and is not compatible with solvent based materials applied directly over it. Elastoproof Collars are not compatible with solvent based materials, adhesives or sealants and must be bedded into a wet film of membrane before it skins. Gripset 38FC contains isothiazolinones and may cause an allergic skin reaction.
