What is ACTFLEX MESHTAPE used for?

MESHTAPE is a mesh-reinforced flexible joint tape for full embedment into thick-bodied liquid membranes. Used at wall-floor junctions, expansion joints, slab edges, and precast seams. The mesh provides reinforcement; the membrane provides waterproofing.

120mm width by 20m roll. Mesh approximately 0.5mm, total tape thickness approximately 0.7mm. Greater than 300% elongation. Longitudinal tensile strength 76 MPa.

Apply the first coat of membrane, lay the MESHTAPE into the wet membrane along the joint or junction, then run a silicon pressure roller along its length to expel air and fully wet out the mesh with membrane. Apply the second membrane coat over the top.

Which membranes work with it?

Compatible with cementitious membranes (988, 989 CWP), acrylic membranes, polyurethane membranes (929 HV/SL, 925 SFPU, 906 WPU), and polyurea systems. The mesh provides keying for any liquid waterproofing chemistry.

ACTFLEX MESH TAPE is an elastomeric joint tape with open mesh wings, made for thick, coarse membranes. The membrane filters right through the wings and grips the substrate, above and below the tape.

0.52 mm thick, 120 mm wide with a 70 mm elastomeric centre and 25 mm mesh each side. Press into wet membrane, then coat over.

Thin brush-grade membranes (use ACTFLEX FLEX TAPE), dry laying, use on its own, or cracks over 3 mm without pre-filling with ACTFLEX 75FC or MS PRO.

How to Use

Bed the tape into a wet base coat of the specified FORSPEC membrane with a steel trowel or spatula, then apply a second coat over the entire tape length to fully encapsulate itConfirm substrates are clean, dry, structurally sound and free of laitance, dust, oil, grease, paint, sealers, curing compounds and all other bond-inhibiting contaminants
Mechanically prepare dense, burnished or coated surfaces by grinding or light abrasion to expose sound substrate, then vacuum the area thoroughly
Make concrete surfaces smooth and free of surface ridges, sharp projections, fins and voids
Ensure junction zones are smooth and continuous for a minimum of 200 mm in every direction from the corner, including the wall upturn
Cut out and reinstate any weak, hollow or drummy render or screed; renders and screeds must be fully cured, crack-free and solidly bonded
Reinstate defects, voids and blowholes with FORBUILD 100 or FORCRETE 100, finished flush and cured
Remove all loose fasteners, screws, nails and debris from wall and floor sheet surfaces
Confirm any required primer has been applied and is fully dry
Pre-fill cracks and static joints wider than 3 mm with ACTFLEX 75FC or ACTFLEX MS PRO and allow to cure
Apply a generous, continuous base coat of the specified FORSPEC membrane at the junction, wide enough to receive the full tape width plus margin on both sides
While the membrane is still wet, centre the tape over the junction so the elastomeric centre spans the joint and the mesh wings lie flat on both planes
Press the tape into the wet membrane with a steel trowel or spatula, working from the centre outwards to expel air, wrinkles and dry zones
Overlap tape ends by a minimum of 50 mm, fully embedded in membrane at the lap
Cut internal corners at 45 degrees and lap or mitre neatly, keeping the centre of the tape continuous and uninterrupted around the corner
Pre-form or cut external corners to the corner shape with continuous overlap, fully saturated on both planes
Allow the base coat to partially set, then apply the second coat of membrane over the entire tape length, fully embedding and encapsulating the tape
Inspect the installed detail for hollow zones, wrinkles, dry mesh or felt, and lifted edges; cut out and re-detail any defective length before continuing
Flood test after full cure of the membrane system, then tile or cover

Technical overview

ACTFLEX MESH TAPE is a high-performance elastomeric joint tape built around a continuous elastomeric resin core flanked by high-porosity mesh wings, engineered for thick-bodied and coarse-consistency waterproofing membranes such as rubber-modified acrylics, cementitious membranes and pasty polyurethanes. The open mesh geometry allows the membrane to filter completely through the wings and encapsulate the tape from both above and below, forming a mechanical lock to the substrate rather than relying on adhesion alone. It is a detailing component and is not itself certified to a membrane standard: compliance is established by the certified FORSPEC membrane system in which the tape is embedded. No accredited certificate is currently held on file for the tape properties, which are published as typical Forspec R&D characteristic values.

Not a stand-alone waterproofing product - the tape performs only as a reinforced detail within a complete FORSPEC waterproofing system and must not be left exposed. Never embed dry: a dry-laid tape will float, bridge and debond. Cracks and static joints wider than 3 mm must be pre-filled with ACTFLEX 75FC or ACTFLEX MS PRO before the tape is installed. Not a substitute for a designed movement joint - dynamic structural joints require the joint detail nominated in the project design. Do not install over frosted, damp or contaminated substrates, or where condensation is present. Do not stretch the tape during installation - an installed tape under tension will pull out of the junction as the membrane cures. Engineered for thick-bodied and coarse-consistency membranes; for thin-film brush-grade membranes specify ACTFLEX FLEX TAPE instead. Confirm compatibility between the tape and the specified membrane with a FORSPEC technical representative before use.
