Cut the centre to suit the penetration, peel the liner and press firmly over the flange or detail. Smooth with a hand roller and overcoat with Gripset 38FC or other membrane.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes – suitable for guttering, roofing and external flashing details, including over Colorbond, zincalume and galvanised metal.

What size is each square?

Each square is 250mm × 250mm – sized to fully cover standard floor wastes and most domestic penetrations.

How soon can I overcoat?

It is instantly sealed once pressed down – overcoat with Gripset membrane immediately after detailing.

How should the squares be stored?

How to Use

Peel the release paper from the butyl side, position with the fabric face upwards and press into place with a spatula, sponge or clothConfirm all surfaces are clean, sound, smooth, dry and free of residual moisture, loose material, dirt, dust, oil, grease, wax residues, laitance, curing compounds, release agents, existing coatings, moss, algae and sharp protruding objects
Mechanically remove structurally unsound layers and surface contaminants by grinding, abrasive blasting or equivalent methods
Fill and level surface defects including voids, holes, pitted sections, heavy undulations and non-structural cracks
Confirm building surfaces are fit for purpose and installed to the manufacturer recommendations and the relevant building standards in force
Allow concrete to cure at least 28 days and cement render or sand cement screeds at least 7 days
Leave non porous and dense surfaces unprimed
Prime or seal highly porous surfaces or surfaces containing surface dust or residue with Gripset GP, E60 or Xpress H20 Primer Plus
Use Gripset E60 on surfaces containing residual moisture or subject to rising damp
Remove the release paper from the butyl rubber side and position the square with the fabric face exposed upwards
Over leak control flanges, position the square to bridge the edge of the flange and the substrate
Press into place with a spatula, sponge or cloth, pushing out air pockets and creases
Using a sharp knife, cut an aperture in the centre of the square to reveal the waste
Apply finishes immediately after the square is in place
Finish over with Gripset adhesives, membranes, coatings, mortars and screeds

Technical overview

Gripset BRW PF Square is a 250mm x 250mm x 0.8mm self-adhesive butyl sealing square used to seal internal and external joint intersections and penetrations before a waterproofing membrane or surface finish is applied. The butyl rubber backing bonds to primed or dense concrete, most metals, timber, compressed fibre cement sheeting, plasterboard, masonry, glazed surfaces, marble, granite, ceramics, plastics and polycarbonate, and gives an instant seal with no drying or curing time. Over leak control flanges the square is positioned to bridge the edge of the flange and substrate and the centre is cut out to reveal the waste. The 01/10/2024 TDS publishes EN, ISO and ASTM test values but cites no test report number and no accredited certificate.
