Technical overview

Leakmaster is a one component, moisture-cure polyurethane water-swelling sealant manufactured by C.I. Takiron Corp. and supplied in Australia by Parchem. It is gunned from a standard cartridge gun into non-moving or low movement joints in civil engineering, construction and water services where a conventional solid waterstop cannot be applied easily, and it is the specified bedding compound for fixing Hydrotite profiles to rough concrete. It swells up to approximately 2 times in volume on contact with water and supports 20m heads of water, keeping rubber-like elasticity after curing. Leakmaster holds an accredited AWQC report (323761) confirming compliance with AS/NZS 4020-2018 for contact with drinking water.

Key applications

  • Bonding Hydrotite profiles to rough concrete surfaces
  • Water sealing joints of cast in-situ concrete
  • Water sealing around H section steel joists
  • Sealing against rough surfaces
  • Water sealing in shotcrete
  • Sealing joints in pre-cast box culverts
  • Pipe penetrations
  • Sealing around traditional heat welded PVC and Hydrotite waterstop joins before a concrete pour

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (clean and dry, all debris, loose material, grease, oil and organic materials removed)
  • Rough concrete surfaces where conventional solid waterstops cannot be applied easily
  • Shotcrete
  • Pre-cast box culverts
  • Steel H section joists
  • Pipe penetrations
  • Metal and glass (adheres before swelling)

Leakmaster should not be used for expansion joints or for joints subject to significant repetitive movements. Do not use in open face joints: it is not a sealant for general building applications. Do not leave in water for longer than 6 hours, and protect it from any ponding of water whilst curing to prevent premature expansion. Allow a minimum of 12 hours before applying hand placed concrete, and 24 hours for large pours where there is no guarantee that concrete will not be poured directly onto the seal. Cover the applied bead with enough thickness of concrete coverage to avoid concrete cracking. Avoid eye and skin contact and use only in well ventilated areas. Store in a cool, dry place below 32C and use the cartridge up within 24 hours after breaking the moisture-proofing foil.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What is Leakmaster LV-Z used for?
    Application

It is a one-component polyurethane water-swellable paste used to bond Hydrotite strips to rough concrete, seal pipe penetrations, and seal non-movement construction joints in cast in-situ concrete.

  • How is Leakmaster LV-Z applied?
    Application

Apply with a standard 320 mL cartridge gun in a continuous bead onto clean, dry concrete, shotcrete, metal or other surfaces. It cures by moisture and bonds firmly without solvents.

  • How much water pressure can it hold?
    Performance

Once cured, Leakmaster LV-Z swells up to roughly twice its volume in contact with water and can support up to 20 m head of water pressure as a seal.

  • Is Leakmaster LV-Z approved for potable water?
    Compatibility

Yes. It is certified to AS 4020:2018 for use in contact with drinking water, in line with the wider Fosroc waterstop system.

  • Can I use Leakmaster LV-Z on rough or shotcrete surfaces?
    Application

Yes. It is specifically designed to seal rough concrete, shotcrete and pipe penetrations where strip waterstops cannot follow the contour of the substrate.
