ASO-SEM is a high-strength, accelerated cementitious screed mortar designed for rapid construction progress. Packaged in 25 KG bags (Material Number: 206543001), it offers a quick setting time with a pot life of approximately 45 minutes, allowing foot traffic after 14 hours and tile installation after 24 hours. With a compressive strength of approximately 40 N/mm² (DIN EN 13813) and a flexural strength of ≥6 N/mm², ASO-SEM ensures durability while maintaining vapour permeability. Its smooth, easy-to-apply consistency makes it suitable for bonded screeds, separating layer screeds, or floating screeds on insulating layers, with thicknesses ranging from 10 to 80 mm. The material is compatible with both heated and unheated designs and is suitable for interior and exterior applications. With very low emissions (EMICODE EC 1), ASO-SEM is an environmentally friendly choice for construction projects requiring fast turnaround times and high-performance screeds.

Technical overview

ASO-SEM is an accelerated, high strength cementitious screed mortar supplied as a pre-blended dry mortar. It is used to produce rapid setting cement-based screeds as bonded screeds, separating layer screeds or floating screeds on an insulating layer, in heated and unheated designs, for interior and exterior use, at layer thicknesses of 10 to 80 mm. Foot traffic is possible after approx. 14 hours and the screed is ready for tiles after approx. 24 hours. Schomburg classifies it CT-C40-F6-A9 after DIN EN 13813 and declares it very low emission to EMICODE EC 1 PLUS. No accredited test report number is quoted in the technical data sheet.

Key applications

  • Producing rapid setting cement-based screeds
  • Bonded screeds
  • Separating layer screeds
  • Floating screeds on an insulating layer
  • Heated and unheated screed designs
  • Interior and exterior use
  • Screed base for tiles, boards, textile covering, parquet and PVC
  • Screeds in water impact classes W0-I to W3-I to DIN 18534 where a suitable SCHOMBURG bonded waterproof system has been applied

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (abraded and prepared, with ASOCRET-HB-FLEX brushed in and the screed applied to the wet slurry coat)
  • Any substrate meeting the load-bearing capacities of DIN EN 1991-1-1
  • Separating layer (screed laid as a separating layer screed)
  • Insulating layer (screed laid as a floating screed)
  • Substrates in water impact classes W0-I to W3-I to DIN 18534 (only where a suitable SCHOMBURG bonded waterproof system has been applied)
  • Substrates with rising moisture (effective waterproofing essential before laying the screed)

The indoor temperature and floor temperature must be at least 5C during application and for the following week, and the substrate and application temperature is approx. 5 to 25C. The installation location must be ventilated, but draughts and direct solar radiation must be avoided during application and hardening, and air dehumidifiers may not be used during the first 3 days. Do not add any other cement or binder. Water pressed out of the surface indicates excessive water addition above 1.5 L per 25kg; ASO-SEM can crystalline bind only approx. 6% of its weight to water and any excess must evaporate, delaying readiness to receive tiles and boards. Low temperatures, high humidity and heavy layer thicknesses delay hardening and drying. A moisture measurement must be carried out using the CM method to assess readiness. If moisture rises from the substrate, effective waterproofing is essential before laying the screed. Border, field, building separation and movement joints must be carried over or installed and detached with edge strips, and crack control joints cut in up to a third of the layer thickness. This product is classified Danger: H315 causes skin irritation and H318 causes serious eye damage. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye and face protection.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What is ASO-SEM used for?
    Application

ASO-SEM is a rapid cementitious screed mortar (CT-C40-F6-A9) for bonded screeds, screeds on separating layers and floating screeds on insulation, in both interior and exterior areas.

  • How much ASO-SEM do I need?
    Coverage & Coats

Approximately 20 kg/m² per 10 mm of screed thickness. A 50 mm screed at 10 m² needs around 1,000 kg, or forty 25 kg bags.

  • What layer thicknesses can ASO-SEM be laid at?
    Application

It can be installed from 10 mm up to 80 mm depending on the construction method (bonded, separated or floating), which suits most residential and commercial screed work.

  • When can heated screeds with ASO-SEM be turned on?
    Cure & Dry Time

Heating can be commissioned after 3 days, which dramatically shortens programme times compared with traditional sand-cement screeds.

  • Is ASO-SEM suitable for tiled finishes?
    Compatibility

Yes. ASO-SEM is engineered as a substrate for tiles, stone, resilient floor coverings and bonded waterproofing systems, with C40 compressive strength meeting commercial floor demands.
