Technical overview

FORSPEC SUPERFLEX JOINT TAPE is a three-layer thermoplastic elastomer waterproofing joint tape faced with flexible felt laminate on both sides, for dynamic movement joints, cold joints and the critical transitions where a waterproofing system is most likely to fail. A systematic perforation pattern along both felt edges lets liquid membranes filter through the tape and key mechanically from both directions. It is a detailing component and is not itself certified to a membrane standard, so AS/NZS 4858 does not apply to it. Compliance is established by the certified FORSPEC membrane system in which the tape is embedded. No accredited certificate is currently held on file for the tape properties, and VOC certification is not currently held.

Key applications

  • Wet areas - bathrooms, laundries and commercial kitchens
  • Balconies, terraces, rooftops and planter boxes
  • Retaining walls, swimming pools and water tanks
  • Horizontal and vertical wall-to-floor junctions
  • Cold joints, chamfers and precast panel seams
  • Corner junctions and transitional zones as a high-performance transition tape
  • Under-tile systems using C2-class adhesives

Surface suitability

  • Concrete (smooth and free of surface ridges, sharp projections, fins and voids)
  • Render (fully cured, crack-free and solidly bonded)
  • Screed (fully cured, crack-free and solidly bonded)
  • Building boards and sheet substrates (installed and fastened per the sheet manufacturer's instructions, all loose fasteners and debris removed)

Not a stand-alone waterproofing product. The tape performs only as a reinforced detail within a complete FORSPEC waterproofing system and must not be left exposed. Never embed dry: the membrane must fully wet out the tape from beneath and be applied over it, or a dry-laid tape will float, bridge and debond. Cracks and static joints wider than 3 mm must be pre-filled with ACTFLEX 75FC or ACTFLEX MS PRO before the tape is installed. Not a substitute for a designed movement joint - dynamic structural joints require the joint detail nominated in the project design. Do not install over frosted, damp or contaminated substrates, or where condensation is present. Do not stretch the tape during installation, as an installed tape under tension will pull out of the junction as the membrane cures. Tile adhesive may be applied only once the waterproofing membrane has fully cured. Confirm compatibility between the tape and the specified membrane with a FORSPEC technical representative before use.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What is SUPERFLEX Joint Tape used for?
    Compatibility

SUPERFLEX Joint Tape is a wider, longer joint reinforcement tape for dynamic joints, precast panel connections, and critical transitions in wet areas, balconies, rooftops, and retaining walls. The 50m roll length suits commercial-scale projects.

  • Specifications?
    Performance

150mm width by 50m roll length (other widths 100-700mm available). Approximately 0.7mm thick. Blue TPE core with white fleece flanks. 370%+ elongation. Water pressure resistance greater than 1.5 bar.

  • How is it embedded?
    Installation

Embed in the wet first coat of liquid membrane (cementitious, polyurethane, or acrylic) along the joint. The TPE core spans movement; the fleece flanks bond to the membrane. Easy embed - no float or delamination.

  • Which membranes work with it?
    Compatibility

Compatible with Forspec cementitious (988, 989 CWP), polyurethane (929 HV/SL, 925, 906 WPU), and acrylic membrane systems. The 150mm width handles most slab edge and movement joint applications.

  • Standards compliance?
    Compliance

Complies with AS4654.2 for external waterproofing reinforcement. Use for AS-compliant balcony, podium, and external deck waterproofing detailing.
