How to Use

Dampen the joint, then work the sealant in by trowel, caulking gun or putty knife, pushing against the bottom and edges to avoid trapped airConfirm the joint width is between 8mm and 30mm and that expected movement is not higher than 15%
Set the sealed depth at approximately half the joint width, or equal to the width where the joint is narrower than 15mm
Clean the joint surfaces back to solid material, free of paint, efflorescence, loose particles, grease, form-stripping oils, dust and gypsum plaster
Where grease or oil is present, clean mechanically with an air jet or with solvents
Fit MAXCEL polyethylene foam backing rod with a diameter 25% greater than the joint width
Dampen the surface with clean water, avoiding puddles, and start once the surface acquires a matte appearance
Pour component A into a clean container and add component B gradually while mixing with a low speed drill at 400-600 rpm fitted with a disc mixer for 2 to 3 minutes
Allow the mixture to rest for 5 minutes and remix briefly before applying
While the surface is still wet, apply into the joint by trowel, caulking gun or putty knife
Push against the bottom and edge of the joint to avoid internal air bubbles
On wide joints apply over both joint edges first, then run a cordon in the middle
Smooth the surface with soaped water immediately after application
Clean tools with water immediately after application
Protect from rain, water contact, condensation or dew for 24 hours
Allow 8 hours before pedestrian traffic and 24 hours before wheel traffic
Allow 72 hours before overcoating with MAXSEAL FLEX or MAXSHEEN ELASTIC
Wash the surface with a water jet and allow 3 days before permanent water immersion

Technical overview

Maxjoint Elastic Express is a two-component elastic cement mortar for urgent sealing of joints and cracks in water reservoirs and concrete pavements. Special synthetic resins in water dispersion are mixed with a cement, additive and aggregate powder to give an elastomeric quick setting-time sealant that withstands joint movement up to 15% and can be applied directly onto wet concrete without primers. It is CE marked under EN 15651-1 as a sealant for facade elements, type F INT-EXT Class 7,5P, which is a manufacturer declaration of performance against that European standard. No Australian accredited test certificate is published for this product.

Joint width must not be less than 8mm and not higher than 30mm. For joints wider than 30mm the TDS directs you to MAXFLEX XJS instead. Do not use in joints with expected movement capability higher than 15%. Do not apply below 5C, or if lower temperatures are forecast within 24 hours, and do not apply onto frozen or frosted surfaces. Do not apply when rain, water contact, condensation or dew is expected within 24 hours after application. Optimum application temperature range is 10C to 30C. Avoid direct sunlight at very high temperature above 30C with strong wind, and keep the moisture curing for at least the first 24 hours with wet burlaps and plastic sheets. Do not add cement, water or aggregates to achieve higher coverage, and never add more water to restore workability. Do not mix more material than can be used in 15 minutes. Once cured and before putting into permanent water contact, wash the surface with a water jet. Component B is abrasive: use rubber gloves and safety goggles and avoid inhaling the dust.
