Technical overview

STAIN-PROOF Acidic Cleaner, previously known as EFF-ERAYZA, is a urea hydrochloride based acidic cleaning concentrate for non-acid sensitive stone and other hard surfaces. It removes efflorescence, grout haze, rust marks, limescale, soap scum, fireplace soot and mortar residue, and it is non-fuming, so it is safer to use than traditional industrial acids such as muriatic and phosphoric. It is diluted into a 10 L bucket of clean water at 1/4 to 1 quart depending on the contamination, applied to a pre-wetted surface for up to 3 minutes, scrubbed, neutralised with an alkaline cleaner and rinsed off. It is a chemical, not a coating, so no film thickness applies. No Australian Standard and no accredited test certificate is cited on the Product Specification Sheet.

Key applications

  • Efflorescence removal from non-acid sensitive stones, pavers, tiles, bricks and masonry
  • Grout haze removal
  • Rust mark and rust stain removal
  • Limescale and hard water deposit removal
  • Soap scum removal
  • Fireplace soot removal
  • Mortar mess and mortar residue removal
  • Indoor and outdoor floors, walls, facades and showers
  • Chemical etching of acid sensitive surfaces for added traction

Surface suitability

  • Non-acid sensitive stone, including granite, slate and basalt
  • Brick and brickwork (non-acid sensitive)
  • Ceramic and porcelain tile
  • Terracotta
  • Pavers (non-acid sensitive)
  • Masonry (non-acid sensitive)
  • Indoor and outdoor floors, walls, facades and showers

Test the product on a small area to check acid sensitivity before full application. For non-acid sensitive stones, pavers, tiles, bricks and masonry only - the product chemically etches acid sensitive surfaces. Apply only when the surface temperature is between 5C and 35C. Pre-wet the surface, do not allow the solution to dry on the surface, and clean large areas in sections. Always neutralise the acid afterwards by dissolving 1 cup of STAIN-PROOF Alkaline Cleaner or another pH base cleaner into a bucket of fresh water, leaving it approximately 3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly several times with clean water. DANGER: may be corrosive to metals (aluminium), causes skin irritation, causes serious eye damage, may cause respiratory irritation. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • Critical - which surfaces is this NOT for?
    Compatibility

NOT for marble, limestone, or travertine - acid will etch these. Use only on non-acid-sensitive surfaces: granite, slate, basalt, brick, ceramic, porcelain tile, and terracotta.

  • What does it remove?
    Performance

Efflorescence, rust, limescale, grout haze, mortar mess, fireplace soot. The fast-acting acidic formula penetrates deep into porous materials to lift stubborn stains.

  • How is it diluted?
    Installation

Efflorescence/rust/soot: 0.5 quart per 10L water. Grout haze/limescale/soap scum: 0.25 quart per 10L. Mortar mess: 1 quart per 10L. One quart makes approximately 4 gallons of working solution.

  • How is it applied?
    Compatibility

Pour, brush, or spray onto pre-wetted surface. Allow up to 3 minutes dwell, agitate with a white nylon pad, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Why trade professionals choose Stain Proof

Stain Proof, also sold under the Dry Treat name, is a stone and masonry protection range built around impregnating sealers that soak into the surface instead of forming a film over it. The line covers solvent carried and waterborne sealers for natural stone, porcelain, quartz, pavers, concrete and grout, plus colour enhancing options and the acid, alkaline and daily cleaners used to prepare and maintain sealed surfaces. Supplied to the Australian trade through The Waterproofing Shop, including seal, clean and maintain packs that cover a whole job in one order.
