Technical overview

AQUAFIN-i380 is a ready to use, solvent free silane injection cream used to form a subsequent horizontal barrier against rising damp in masonry work. The cream is injected into pre-drilled holes either without pressure using a cartridge gun or by low pressure technique under 10 bar, where it saturates the pores and makes the capillary walls water repellent so capillary water transport stops. Schomburg states the material is tested and certified in accordance with WTA relevant guidelines up to 95% moisture penetration, based on WTA data sheet 4-10. No accredited test report number is quoted in the technical data sheet, and the remaining figures are published as product characteristic values.

Key applications

  • Subsequent horizontal barrier against rising damp in masonry work
  • Pressureless injection against rising damp
  • Low pressure injection techniques under 10 bar
  • Masonry with moisture penetration up to 95%
  • Retrospective internal waterproofing alongside AQUAFIN-RB400 and the THERMOPAL restoration plaster system
  • Double-sided injection to masonry over 60 cm thick

Surface suitability

  • Masonry work (drill holes set to cover at least one bed joint, and 2 or more bed joints in thicker masonry)
  • Masonry work with larger voids, chamber stones, cracks or open joints (pressed out with ASOCRET-BM before drilling)
  • Low or non absorbent masonry (drill holes arranged in two levels in the joint area, height difference under 8 cm)
  • Masonry over 60 cm thick (double-sided injection or pressure injection)

Not suitable for hydrophobic action on alkaline surfaces such as concrete components. Protect surfaces that are not to be treated from the effects of AQUAFIN-i380. The renovation procedure follows WTA technical data sheet 4-10 and preliminary investigations such as moisture balance and salt analysis are generally required before injecting. Apply only at a substrate and application temperature from 5C to 30C. For wall thicknesses over 60 cm use double-sided injection or pressure injection. Inhalation of aerosol mists can be harmful to health and the product hydrolyses to form ethanol. Wear protective gloves of natural latex, polychloroprene or nitrile rubber, safety goggles to DIN EN 166 and protective work clothing. Keep out of the reach of children and do not allow the product to enter the sewer system.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • How is AQUAFIN-i380 applied?
    Application

It is a creamy silane paste applied with a standard cartridge gun straight into pre-drilled holes along the damp-proof course line. No injection pumps or pressure equipment are required.

  • How far does one cartridge go?
    Coverage & Coats

Consumption depends on wall thickness and porosity, but the cream form delivers low-waste, controlled placement compared with liquid silanes. Refer to the TDS table for ml-per-metre based on your wall.

  • Is AQUAFIN-i380 suitable for heritage buildings?
    Compatibility

Yes. The cream consistency, pressureless application and vapour permeability make it a standard specification for sensitive heritage and stone restoration projects.

  • How long does the cream take to work?
    Cure & Dry Time

The cream begins to hydrophobise the capillary structure within hours and develops its full damp-proof effect as it diffuses through the masonry over the following days. Walls should then dry from above the new barrier.

  • Is the i380 cream safe for interior work?
    Safety

Yes. AQUAFIN-i380 is solvent-free and approved for interior and exterior application. Standard PPE per the SDS is sufficient.
