Technical overview

SWP E-RID (E-R EFFLORESCENCE-RID) is a fluid applied cleaner that removes efflorescence from concrete, brick, block, stucco and other masonry surfaces. It is a hydrochloric acid based liquid at pH 1.0, applied with a plastic garden pump sprayer, left 3 to 5 minutes to foam, agitated with a stiff nylon brush and then washed off and rinsed well. It is for exterior use only and is considered Corrosive, Class 8, UN 1789, Packing Group III. Coverage is 5-7 m2 per litre depending on the roughness of the surface and the degree of efflorescence. No Australian Standard sets performance requirements for efflorescence removers, no accredited test certificate is held for this product, and every figure published is the manufacturer's own value.

Key applications

  • Removing efflorescence from concrete, brick, block, stucco and other masonry surfaces
  • Sidewalks, driveways and parking decks
  • Concrete floors and ramps
  • Masonry walls, brick and pavers
  • Stucco, cinder block and stone
  • Cleaning salt off a surface before SEALTIGHT is applied
  • Industrial, commercial and residential exterior surfaces

Surface suitability

  • Concrete sidewalks, driveways, parking decks, floors and ramps (exterior only)
  • Brick and pavers (test first, some surfaces can become bleached)
  • Masonry walls
  • Stucco
  • Cinder block
  • Stone

For exterior use only. Considered Corrosive, Class 8, UN 1789, Packing Group III, and contains hydrochloric acid salt at 11 percent. It causes burns to skin, burning to eyes, and mist can cause damage to nasal and respiratory passages. Always test on surfaces prior to application, as some surfaces can become bleached. DO NOT PRESSURE WASH. Water surrounding grass and shrubs well before starting. Do not mix with any alkali or hypochlorite product, as violent foaming and release of chlorine will occur. Apply in good weather when air and surface temperature are above 7C and the surface is at least 15C above the dew point. The manufacturer recommends chemical gloves, eye protection and rubber boots.

Frequently asked questions

View all FAQs
  • What is SWP E-RID used for?
    Compatibility

SWP E-RID dissolves and removes efflorescence - the white salt deposits that appear on concrete, brick, block, and render surfaces. The product penetrates the surface, liquifies the salts, and brings them to the surface for wash-off.

  • How is it different from acid washing?
    Performance

E-RID is solvent-free, non-flammable, non-carcinogenic, and biodegradable - safer than traditional acid washes while still effective at salt removal. Less risk to operators, surrounding materials, and adjacent surfaces.

  • How is it applied?
    Installation

Brush apply onto the affected area (use the Drizoro 150mm brush). Leave for a minimum of 20 minutes to react with the salts, then reapply if heavily efflorescent and wash off with clean water.

  • Which substrates is it safe on?
    Compatibility

Safe on concrete, brick, block, render, stucco, and most masonry. Test on a small area first if the substrate is delicate or has a sensitive finish. Avoid contact with polished metals and glass.

  • Safety precautions?
    Compliance

E-RID is corrosive (acidic chemistry). Wear gloves, eye protection, and acid-resistant clothing during application. Wash any skin contact immediately. Refer to the supplied SDS for full safety procedures.

Why trade professionals choose Drizoro

Drizoro is a Spanish manufacturer of cement based waterproofing and concrete repair products, supplied to the Australian trade through The Waterproofing Shop. The range on this site covers Maxseal Foundation and Maxseal Flex, along with repair mortars, grouts, joint products and mesh, used on concrete and masonry where water has to be held back rather than simply shed. Choosing between the rigid and the flexible grade is the key decision, and it comes down to the substrate, the direction of the water and how much movement the structure is likely to see.
